What Makes Caitlin Happy?—A Drabble

A/N—Got inspired to try this after I read Mogo Girl's Hawke's Contentment—A Drabble. Decided to make the subject "Happy," instead of "content," to avoid stepping on Mogo Girl's toes too much. Enjoy!—robertwnielsen

Lots of things made Caitlin O'Shannessy happy—the first time she rode a horse, learning to fly, the time she spent riding horses on her parents' ranch in Texas, college, and finally moving to California. As Caitlin walked through the woods, she thought about the one thing that made her the happiest of all. Sometimes I still can't believe it, she said to herself as a building came into view. I can't believe I found my true happiness here in California. Even if it did take that stubborn mule two years to figure out that he made me happy, and that he could love me the way I love him. She quickened her pace, knowing that what made her happiest of all awaited her there. She found him just finishing playing his cello, like she'd figured he would be—but he quickly stood up and walked into the cabin with her when he saw her coming. Once he'd put the instrument away, Hawke took Caitlin into his arms and kissed her with everything he had. This is what makes me happiest of all, Caitlin O'Shannessy Hawke said to herself as she lost herself in the emotions of her husband's kiss.
