summary: Some observations on House's attempt to sabotage Wilson's relationship with Sam. Mild Hilson.
I was a bit inspired by the song "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt.
Enjoy!
House initially convinced himself that he was trying to break up Sam and Wilson because he wanted to prevent his best friend from getting hurt again.
However, none of his rationalizing could explain the sinking feeling that gripped his heart when he saw Sam and Wilson laughing, joking, and playing poker.
There was something about the slow, easy conversation, the uproarious laughter, and the pure light in Wilson's eyes that unnerved House.
House was never one for psychoanalyzing himself, but he was damn sure that this was getting under his skin.
He just wished that he knew why.
A tiny part of his mind, perhaps a minuscule altruistic corner of his amygdala, told him to let Wilson be happy.
Live and let live.
Alas, it was much easier said than done, and Gregory House couldn't bring himself to let go.
Such possessiveness was disturbing and almost pathological, but he didn't care.
House knew that he needed Wilson, and he would be damned if he let Sam steal him again.
He cast a furtive glance at Wilson and noticed that the oncologist's eyes were still focused on Sam as if he was feeding off her energy, her life.
House stood just outside the soft halo caused by the gentle glow of their rejuvenated love. He made one last fruitless attempt to refract Sam's light, but it was too late.
Wilson was already falling away.
