Chapter 1

Mirianna was nervous, no she was terrified. She was in New York City for the first time in 5 years. The last time she was here was when her father brought her back from Paris. She was now 10, and scared. Her head was pounding, her heart was beating and she just wanted to get out of the taxi and breathe in the crisp autumn air. Sadly she was still 10 minutes away from what she could see on the GPS.

"You seem a little young to be in such a big city alone" the taxi driver implied, clearly trying to start a conversation.

"I have family here" Mirianna simply said, trying to sound polite. Her voice was riddled with fear. She couldn't help it, she wasn't looking to start a conversation; she was here to get the stupid papers signed by her estranged brother.

The remainder of the ride consisted of side comments regarding the beloved city. Finally the taxi pulled up in front of what she believed to be her brothers step moms house.

"Thank you" she said paying him with the last of her money. Oh well, is all she thought, it would be worth it in the end.

She stepped outside and almost immediately felt out of place. Her dress, a French pinstriped button up dress, was old and worn out. And her purse was clearly not a Henri Bendel. She entered the building and asked for Lily Bass. The man at the desk gave her a strange look put proceeded to let her through. Who could say no to a girl with natural beauty that shown even through her now very swollen tired eyes?

As the elevator doors opened there was a slight swoosh and she stepped in, shivering she cursed under her breath for not bringing with her a jacket. The elevator ride seemed to take longer than the car ride over here.

Finally with the sound of a bell the doors swooshed open once more revealing a beautifully warm and inviting home. She heard a women talking on the phone. As she rounded the corner Mirianna knew she made a mistake. She turned around and started once more heading for the dreaded elevator doors.

"Hello" a sweet voice that pierced her thoughts, spoke.

Mirianna turned around to see a beautiful blonde woman standing in front of her with the poise here teachers at boarding school used to get complain that she lacked.

"Hi I'm looking for Chuck Bass".
