Author's Note: First Maleficent story! I saw the movie a few days ago. Hope this is good enough. :) Enjoy!
Kiss
Diaval sighed and decided to take another bite of his apple. As he munched on it, he realized that he wouldn't even be able to eat an apple properly if he were in his raven form. Lowering his gaze to the red fruit, Diaval let it slide out of his hand and plop into the murky water in front of him. Sighing again, he watched the apple sink down into the bottom of the lake.
"Diaval?"
Flinching in surprise, Diaval straightened up and lifted his eyes, his gaze finding none other than Maleficent. She looked as beautiful as ever, standing there with her long and ravishing hair and her magnificent wings displayed behind her. The female was just staring at him, concern coloring her eyes along with a massive amount of curiosity.
"Yes, beautiful?" Words escaped Diaval's mouth without his consent. He immediately shut his mouth afterwards, finally realizing what he had said. "I'm sorry. Yes, mistress?" he corrected himself.
Maleficent stared at him for a very long moment in complete perplexity before slowly shaking her head, forgetting what he had called her before. "You seem troubled," she noticed, moving closer to him. "What thoughts go through your mind this evening?"
"Not much," replied Diaval, fully aware of how close he and Maleficent were to each other. Their shoulders were now touching. It was then that Diaval began to wonder why and how he started developing loving feelings towards his mistress. It was…odd. "I was thinking about what tomorrow will bring."
"Oh, really?" Maleficent turned her head slightly, looking at him intently.
Diaval moved his head to return her gaze. "Really," he confirmed quietly, his eyes studying every single flawless feature of her face. His eyes landed on her lips and he wondered what it would feel like to kiss her. He had never kissed anyone before, obviously. Diaval imagined what the experience would be like.
"I am certain that tomorrow will bring more happiness," Maleficent breathed, awkwardly realizing how close Diaval's face was. Their lips were inches apart now and it made her very uncomfortable, bringing back unwanted feelings. "That is all there is nowadays. Only joy."
"What about love?" Diaval asked all of a sudden. "Will tomorrow bring love too?"
Maleficent stiffened at his words, finding it to be very…strange. What in the world would Diaval be asking her that for? "I…believe Aurora and Prince Philip are bringing the love tomorrow, especially with how things have turned out between them."
Diaval nodded in agreement. "Yes. They have been very…close lately."
"Indeed," caterwauled Maleficent.
"And I…wonder something, mistress," Diaval started in a voice filled with hesitation. He also sounded uncertain, Maleficent recognized. "I wonder if we…you and I…could become close as well?"
Maleficent's eyes enlarged and she took a trembling step back, disbelief coloring her facial features. What in the world was going on through the raven's mind? "Diaval-"
Diaval cut her off by clumsily pushing his lips against hers firmly. Maleficent froze, unable to react to such an action. The raven pulled back immediately, instantly seeing the shocked expression on the beautiful woman's face. "Maleficent…" he trailed, knowing he was about to be in big trouble.
Without a word, Maleficent turned around and fled, hand over her mouth. She didn't look back as she flew up into the clouds, leaving a gust of wind behind her.
Diaval watched her go, a numb feeling going through his body. Maybe it was wrong to do that? Still, he couldn't help but feel that she might have took a small amount of liking to the sudden kiss he gave her.
It was nice.
He'd have to try that again.
