Summary: Scully reflects on the miracle she has been given.
She never knew it would be this tough, but the joy was overwhelming. She
looked at the tiny toes and tiny fingers and could barely believe that it
was not all a dream. She had to pinch herself to make sure the last few days
were real.
Ten tiny fingers. So small. She recalled what Reyes had said in their
'shack'. "'I've never delivered a baby before,'" to which Scully replied,
"'I've never given birth before.'"
She sighed and wrapped him in a towel, dried and dressed him. Her mother
smiled. "It's a beautiful thing, Dana." She touched the tiny fingers. Then
she looked at her daughter. "Is something wrong, Dana?"
Scully looked at her mom and then down at the baby. "I-I guess I just feel
strange."
Her mother rubbed her daughters arm affectionately. "It's a big change,
having a baby, caring for it. Loving it. But it's a wonderful change." She
smiled. "Now do I get a turn to hold my new grandson?" she took him from
Scully's arms and walked towards the living room to sit.
Scully followed her. "I-it's not that. I just never thought that I could
have this-that this part of my life would never happen. It's a miracle."
"And you deserve this, sweetie." She looked down at her bundle. "I think
this little one is going for a nap." She replied softly, and stood, taking
the little one with her to the bedroom.
Scully got up and went back into the kitchen to clean up. It was a miracle.
The End.
