Ginny Weasley was wide awake in at three in the morning.
Again.
She rarely slept these days. Harry, Ron, and Hermione- her boyfriend, her brother, and one of her best friends- were off searching for who-knows-what, and she felt relatively alone in the confines of the Gryffindor Common Room. Even Neville had left to hide in the Room of Requirement to avoid being arrested by the Death Eaters. Ginny, Seamus, and Luna wouldn't be far behind, but they couldn't all disappear at once.
She rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling, wishing she were back home at the burrow with her mum and dad and brothers. No mail was allowed in or out of Hogwarts anymore, so she hadn't heard from them in months. It was nearing December, and Ginny was lonelier than she'd ever been in her entire life.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. Her self-diagnosed insomnia got the better of her, and she slipped on her jacket to wander through the deserted corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It was chilly, but Ginny didn't care. Anything was better than lying in bed waiting for either morning or restless sleep to come. She wandered around until her feet ached from walking on the cold stone floors and she came to a boarded up room at the end of a corridor she didn't even recognize. Where was she?
She pulled out her wand and magically removed the boards on the door as quietly as she could before stepping inside. There wasn't a single item in the room, save a few dust bunnies and a single chair that was lopsided from missing a leg...
And a large object covered with a sheet in the far corner, almost completely hidden in the shadows.
Cautiously, Ginny made her way towards it. "Wingardium leviosa," she whispered, pointing her wand at the sheet. The sheet rose up to reveal a very large mirror with slanted writing she couldn't make out along the top frame. She let the sheet drop to the ground and took a step closer to the strange mirror, wondering why on Earth it would have been covered and hidden like this. She stepped in front of it and saw herself, standing in her nightgown with her jacket on, and then gasped loudly.
Harry Potter was standing right behind her.
She turned on the spot to embrace him, but when she looked, he was nowhere to be seen. Distraught and confused, she turned back to the mirror and saw him once again, but this time, he was joined by three young children, one of whom, a girl, had flaming red hair that resembled her own, and two boys with jet black hair.
Suddenly, it hit her. She'd heard Harry and Ron talk about the Mirror of Erised before, and she realized with a jolt that she was looking at it with her own eyes. She locked eyes with Reflection-Harry, staring into an image of the caring green eyes she knew and loved. Tears started to stream down her face as she stared at the image in the mirror.
"I miss you," she whispered. Reflection-Harry put his hand on her shoulder and smiled faintly, but she knew it was just and illusion. She tore her eyes from the mirror and threw the sheet back over it. Still crying, she made her way back to the Gryffindor Common Room, feeling no better than she had been when she left, but with a renewed fire in her veins.
She had to keep fighting.
For Harry.
