Forgiven
I lay in this field staring up to the sky.
The stars were just as beautiful as I remembered.
As beautiful as the night we made the promise,
The promise...,
I promised her...,
I promised to always protect her and failed.
My eyes eyes closed as my frown deepened and a single tear fell from my sore red eyes.
What would tomorrow bring?
My battle was over and won but was it really worth the pain that it brung?
Was the victory really worth losing her?
I would forever be plauged with memories of her.
The same distorted scene running through my head.
Her taking the bullet.
The bullet that was intended for me,
And it was all because she loved me.
I know she's here with me but it's not the same,
No matter how hard I tried I couldn't forget the pain,
And no one but you could take it away.
Yet still I couldn't blame you for what you had to do.
I would have done the same thing,
Taken a bullet for you.
So I'll continue to live for both of us,
And maybe if I'm good we'll meet again.
I'm always with you just as you're always with me,
And one day you'll see just how happy you made me.
With your dying breath you asked for forgiveness.
I know it's too late to say it to your face,
I just hoped you heard me whisper before you passed.
You're not here with me now,
But I love you and yes you're forgiven
