31st December, New Years Eve.

Esme POV

Edward had come home to stay for Christmas and had decided to stay for New Year as well. He was missing Bella more that ever. It had been over a year since we had left. Jasper still felt guilty, thinking it was his fault. Edward told him numerous times that it wasn't but he didn't believe it.

"Esme?" Carlisle's voice brought me out of my thought's. "Esme, honey, were going shopping, do you want to come?"

"Yes, that would be lovely."

We were all going shopping except Jasper, who claimed he had things to do.

We all piled into the black Mercedes and sped off in the direction of Port Angeles.

Jasper POV

Thank goodness for that! Finally, some alone time!

My family have been driving me mad the past few days. Moping and being sad and moody.

I sat back on the couch with my headphones on listening to soothing music.

Suddenly there was a sharp knock at the door. I sighed and got up slowly.

I opened the door to the smell of vampire. A strange vampire, but it smelt vaguely familiar but not exactly the same.

I picked up the parcel quickly and went inside closing the door.

The parcel had a note attached to it. The envelope said 'To the Cullens'.

I opened the envelope and my mouth dropped open as I read the contents:

To Edward, Carlisle, Jasper Esme, Alice, Emmet and Rosalie, I am sorry for the pain I have caused you and myself. I have tried to move on with my life but I fear I cannot. However, I will continue to try as long as I can.

A new year, a new life, at least for you.

Goodbye forever, I love you,

XB

P.S I will always love you Edward Cullen. XX

I pulled myself together, at least a little bit, long enough to open the parcel, but my efforts were wasted.

The parcel contained a photograph of Bella and Charlie. Charlie looked happy and Bella was trying her best but the smile didn't reach her eyes. They were golden and full of sadness.

Golden?

I looked at her and Charlie. They were both deathly pale with golden eyes.

Oh dear.

That's why I smelt vampire outside the door.

Edwards not going to like this, I thought.

Just then everyone arrived back at the house.

"Edward won't like what?" Edward asked.
