The moment the trial had ended he knew what he had to do. It was a trial that had made him question how he had spent his life for the past few years. He walked into his office and shut the door, he looked around the room for what might be the last time. Countless books lined the right wall, everything from law books to thick case files.
How many of those cases had he won through trickery? How many innocents had he condemned to prison?
This was the very reason he had to leave, he could not allow himself to dwell on the past he could only hope to better himself in the future. To do that he had to get out of this place, he had to get away, reflect on what he really wanted to do with his life. He walked over to the large desk in the back of the room, he sat down and opened the drawer to his left. Pulling out a small slip of paper and a pen he began to wonder what he would write. He needed to make certain no one would come looking for him, he needed time alone, the last thing he wanted was Wright chasing after him. It was then he heard a knock on the door, sighing deeply he said "Come in."
"Edgeworth I have something I need to tell you"
He looked up at the woman who had just entered. Her stance was stiff as usual, her spine erect, right arm behind her back and her gaze penetrating as always. She closed the door silently behind her and walked forward to his desk.
"Yes, Chief Prosecutor?"
"Oh drop the formalities, we both know that I will not have that title for much longer. Not only that but the business I am here on is much more personal" She said leaning across the desk to meet his eyes.
"Alright then Lana, what is it I can do for you? I hope you aren't asking me to take care of Ema because I-"
"No. I have that taken care of, this is about you and I and you and I only."
He saw why she was here now, he had been waiting for this moment for years. He supposed now circumstances had changed, she was no longer his superior, now she was just an ordinary woman.
"I see" he said getting up from his chair. She was still leaned over the desk; he grabbed both sides of her face and kissed her straight on the lips. It took her a moment but she soon kissed back her hands reaching behind his neck. Just as soon as the kiss had begun however it ended, he broke apart from her.
"I'm not staying here. I'm leaving the country tomorrow."
"Oh, I see." she said looking utterly heartbroken. After years of longing for each other the opportunity to be together, though under less than ideal circumstances, had finally presented itself to them.
After a moment she spoke again.
"Should you ever choose to return, I'll be here. If you really are leaving though lets make this a memorable goodbye shall we?"
A smile crept across her face as she walked around to his side of the desk. Soon they were kissing again more passionately this time, they both knew soon they would be doing much more than kissing.
"Should I go lock the door?" he said with a smirk.
"Probably for the best, I don't think our reputations could handle yet more disgrace." She replied with a little laugh.
He quickly got up to lock the door, returning swiftly to her embrace. She was making him rethink his decision to leave, but he knew he had too.
She would be here when he got back he had no doubt. If nothing else Lana Skye was loyal to those she loved. The trial had proven that.
