The Battle of the Homestead
Davenport Homestead July, 1855
Isaac Kenway charged up the stairs of the basement with his father. Musket balls were blasting through the walls and windows of the manor, ripping holes and shattering glass. "Father, who are these men?!" Isaac yelled over the gunshots, ducking down, flanking the back door to avoid the incoming fire. Michael flanked the door on the opposite side, glancing out the window, which shattered. He turned back to Isaac, a small piece of glass in his cheek, blood streaming down his face. His face was angry, and he ripped the glass from his face, throwing it to the ground. "Just some old friends, Isaac." he growled, pulling down his sleeve. Michael slid off what Isaac saw as a gauntlet, and Michael tossed it to him. "Put it on."
Isaac slid on the gauntlet. It had the same symbol that the Assassin robes had on them. "Flex your hand," said Connor behind them.. Isaac turned, startled, then did as he was told, and a blade slid out of the gauntlet. He stared at it in amazement, then took it out and held it as a knife. A musket ball blasted a hole right over Isaac's head. He fell to the floor, the knife cutting a small slit on his upper lip. Blood dripped into his mouth. He crouched, sliding the hammer out of his belt. "Ready when you are, father." He wiped his mouth. Michael reached above the door and pulled down the musket hidden there. He turned his head, nodded to Connor, then to Isaac. The two nodded back. One more volley of musket balls was launched into the house, and Michael threw open the door.
Isaac and Michael charged. There were about 20 men in total, who were all reloading. They had split up into 3 different groups to do more damage. Some gave shouts of warning as the two men charged. Isaac landed on one of the men, smashing the hammer down on his forehead. He stood and caught a bayonet on the knife blade, holding it in the air and bringing the hammer into the man's thigh. When he doubled over in pain, Isaac brought the tip of the knife into his throat. Isaac turned and was met with several men surrounding him. They all moved in to make synchronized slashes and stabs with their bayonets, but Isaac ducked, thrusting the hammer into the groin of one man, rolling under him as he fell. But it wasn't enough...one man slammed the stock of the rifle into Isaac's head. Isaac went deaf and fell over. His vision was blurred, fading in and out of darkness.
All of the men had surrounded Michael, and he was fending them off as best as he could. He swung the rifle like a stick, taking off heads and limbs. He impaled one man, turned and fired into another. But Isaac's vision became clear again, just in time to watch his father's head explode from a musket ball. Isaac screamed "FATHER!" and stood up, charging at them, but Connor appeared in the doorway. He kept his eyes on the men, who had turned around, preparing to fire again. Connor yelled to Isaac: "Isaac, I'll handle this. You need to get out of here. Get to the capital. GO!" Isaac stared at Connor for a moment, a golden glow starting to appear around him. Connor held out the golden sphere, power radiating around him, the sphere glowing brighter, the men taking no notice, the ones that remained uninjured reloading their muskets and taking aim. Connor turned his head, facing Isaac and screamed "You need to run. GO! NOW!"
Isaac turned, sprinting from the manor. Without stopping, he dove off of the cliff, the sound of the manor exploding behind him.
