A HariPo drabble

Note: The Harry Potter characters belong to J.K. Rowling, not me. So rare to read anything canon from me… O.o Read, review, and enjoy!

For a split-second, Ginny almost wanted to laugh. Her mother had just cursed in front of them before taking over Ginny's duel with Bellatrix, and now Molly pushed the Dark Witch back.

Yet as they fought, Ginny's giddiness flew away. Her eyes were now glued to her mother dueling Voldemort's most loyal follower, and a panic swelled within her. No. Her mother, her aged mother was battling this villain. Her mother, a mother of seven—now six—was breathing hard as she flung spells Ginny had never before seen. Her mother, the gentlest soul in the world, had a wrinkled face set in determination…the determination to protect her family, or die trying.

No. Ginny didn't want to think about that.

But she couldn't avoid it. It felt as though barely any time had passed since that night when her father had been attacked by Nagini. And Ginny remembered the emotions she had felt that night—the curiosity for being awoken late at night, the shock at hearing the news, the fear that Arthur wouldn't make it through the night.

Now here she was, reliving those same fears. One wrong step, and Molly could go down. But there would be no recovery.

Bellatrix threw a spell.

Molly deflected it.

Bellatrix had never looked so scared.

Molly had never looked so triumphant.

Then, just as Ginny was ready to throw herself back into the fight, to protect her mother the way she and her brothers couldn't on the night their father had been hurt, that was it. The battle was over. Bellatrix was no more.

Molly did not exactly look pleased, but she did look relieved.

Ginny had the sudden urge to run and yell at her mother. For while it was nice to be protected, Ginny couldn't deny that she'd be devastated actually to lose a parent, and she glimpsed the same relief and fury on her brothers' faces. So she later ran to her mother after the battle—and hugged her and cried.

And least they had a lifetime ahead of them to yell at their mother for putting herself in danger.

Well, this actually went almost exactly as planned. People tend to think that kids don't think things through or don't worry as much as adults—but wouldn't you be scared to death at these thoughts of loss? It's why Ginny wants to scold Molly—but she doesn't, in pure Molly fashion. Instead she hugs her, because the next thing to do is to mourn Fred. Scolding Molly probably came after that. :')

Thanks for reading, and please review!
