Kuwabara was quickly coming to terms with the fact that he was going to die. Oh, maybe not today, or tomorrow, or even the days after that. But, it was almost a given that his friends would outlive him. Because, after everything they had been through together, he was still the token ningen of the group. Sure, Kurama put on a good show of it, and Yusuke had been one up until recently, and Hiei…well, Hiei never seemed like anything other than what he was. Whatever. Two out of the three served to prove the point. The point being that, these days, Kazuma Kuwabara was the sole full ningen in Koenma's employ.
Perhaps he should listen to Shizuru, and go to university. Because he wouldn't last forever, or even close to it, if he kept this up. Perhaps he should leave the demon-fighting to the actual demons. Sure, he was in his prime now, like Hiei, Kurama and Yusuke, but the flow of time was pulling at him, aging him, while they would be young and strong until long after his name was forgotten.
He was going to die, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do to stop it.
Just a tiny idea I had, while I was reading my YYH collection. It's such a good series, but as I was reading it, it hit me that poor Kuwabara was the only one of the original group that was still entirely human, and therefore, the only one of them that was going to die in a human's lifespan. That seems so short, compared to how long Yoshiro Togashi's told us his demons survive. Can you imagine what Kuwabara feels about that? And don't even try to say that he's an idiot, because he's a lot more perceptive than the YYH fandom gives him credit for.
