Did I become mad?
Again and again he looked at the photo in the Daily Prophet. Could it really be true? Was the rat on the boy's shoulder really the man because he had to spend the last 12 years in Azkaban? But Black was sure. You could see quite clearly that the rat was missing a front claw.
A claw which the rat had cut itself. But not in the shape of this animal. No. In the shape of a man. In the shape of Peter Pettigrew. His true self.
Because Peter was an Animagus. Someone who can change his shape in the shape of an animal. The figure is not optional. It depends on the character of the person. So it is fortunate that Pettigrew took the shape of a rat. He was just as cowardly and sneaky as it is always a rat.
James Potter, Black's best friend before Pettigrew has condemned him to death, has a really strong character. He is always loyal and knows exactly what is going on in a person when she or he was sad.
Sirius Black himself, also an Animagus, took the shape from a dog.
James had always said he was playful and crazy. Like dogs usually are. But when it mattered, he would always been there.
And so he had all these years only one target. To avenge James and Lily Potter. For his godson Harry. He wanted to kill Peter Pettigrew. And this time without he will bringing him back to Azkaban with a trick.
And now it was time. He knows where Pettigrew was, where he would be soon, when September started.
But how Black should reach him, where he was in the best prison in the world? How he could pass the countless Dementors, the guards of Azkaban, without them notice him and probably do the worst things that can happen to a person? If they give him the kiss of it would suck the soul out of his body.
Although they were blind they knew exactly where the prisoners were. They felt their despair, fear and grief. Their human emotions.
But what if his mother was always right when she said animals were stronger than humans? He had only one chance. He would try it.
He hasn't much time to think and answer all the questions that swirling in his head, because already the Dementors opened the door of his cell because they wanted to bring him food. He quickly took the shape of a large, black dog and ran straight on past the Dementors to the edge of the island. He jumped into the water.
The way to the mainland was long but Black knew he would get a reward. The thought drove him. Him, Black, the only had ever managed to escape from Azkaban. He would do anything to get to the rat.
He would find him, kill him, and then tell the truth to his godson. That at that time, against 12 years ago, was not he has betrayed his parents but Peter Pettigrew. He was working for THE black magician. Lord Voldemort. Even if he is at risk then the Dementors' kiss. He would risk it. For Lily and James.
He would find the rat of Ron Weasley.
