A/N: River and 11 are so cute together. Wish they were mine. If wishes were horses...
She lay asleep in his arms, and he gazed down at her. Little goosebumps arose on the part of her chest exposed above her vest's neckline, and he cuddled her closer to his body with his left arm, his right angled awkwardly under his head.
Her lips moved in her dreams, and he wondered what she was seeing. Maybe she was reliving the last few hours of rare contentment and peace they had shared. Maybe it was a conversation with a past or future him, or...maybe it was another nightmare. The ones she swears she doesn't have, but he knows she does. He knows better than anyone else.
He didn't rouse her. He just held her like that, happy to let the blood in his left arm stop circulating as comfortably as he would have liked, and reminisced about all the places he had already taken her past or future self... it was so difficult to keep track sometimes, even with that blasted diary.
He thought about how much he wanted her company. If there were one thing he could do it would be to jump back into that TARDIS once all this were over, and go right back again to where it had started this morning. Crossing timelines be damned. He would knock out his past self and take his place, and love her all over again like this. She'd know, a silent voice chided him. He just rolled his eyes. I know she would.
"Would what?" A confused sleep-ridden River slowly blinked her eyes open.
"Nothing, dear." He kissed her hair tenderly and squeezed his left arm on her shoulder. She loved that, he could see it in the way her lip quirked into a brief little smile subconsciously. He wondered if she knew that it was as much for his blood circulation.
"Oh... I thought you said somethin'." She could barely complete her sentence before she was asleep again. He had never known her to be so tired. Maybe he should scan her, check her iron levels were adequate-
Or maybe you just, you know. /Tired her out/ a little. That mischievous voice. He was unable to suppress the grin. Maybe. Probably.
Right on cue, she curled her leg around his. He felt her shuffle against his skin, and smiled.
He could do this all over again forever.
