First Sight

Good bye sun. Good bye heat.

I am moving to Forks, Washington. The wettest place in the continental US. My mom and

step dad, Phil , want to go on the road. So I am going to live with my dad, Charlie. He is the police

chief in the little town.

It's March, middle of the semester. Great.

Charlie was at the airport to pick me up in the police cruiser. How embarrassing. That is why

after I told my mom that I would be moving so she could travel with Phil I started saving every

penny I earned, found, or was given to me in my allowance to buy a car.

"Hey, Ed, I've got a homecoming gift for you at the house." Dad greeted me.

"Thanks, and um I go by Edward" I replied.

"Oh, sure, Edward" The rest of the trip was spent in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence

though. Neither my dad or I are much for talking.

He parked the car on the curb. At first i didn't realize why, but then I saw the old Chevy in

the driveway.

"Wow! Is... Is that mine?" I ask in wonderment.

"Yup, Bought it off of old Billy Black. He's in a wheelchair now so he can't drive it. And his

boy isn't old enough yet. But he sure as hell didn't want it. Says it's too slow."

"It's perfect."

"It's got a full tank of gas too."

After I finally got through checking the engine with Charlie constantly telling me Billy's son

completely rebuilt the thing, we went inside and had diner. I made a mental note to remind myself

that Charlie cant cook anything besides a bowl of cereal or bacon and eggs. Looks like I would be

doing the cooking around here.

I had school in the morning so I took a shower and went to bed.

The school was so small I had most of the kids in most of my classes. By the time lunch

rolled around I had already made a bunch of friends. We were talking about how I was sure to love it

here, when The door to the cafeteria opened and five of the most beautiful people I had ever seen

walked in with more grace than a gazel.

"Edward? Hello, Earth to Edward" Oh they were talking to me.

"Huh? Who are they?" I ask. They turned their heads to see who i was talking about but I

could tell they already knew.

"The Cullens. The blond guy that's Jasper. And the blond girl that's his twin, Rosalie.

They aren't really Cullens they're the Hales. Dr. and adopted them when they were

eight." This came from Mike, A boy I had Trigonometry and English with.

"The big one is Emmet. He an Rosalie are together. They aren't related but it's still weird.

The girl with the spiky hair is Alice, she's with Jasper." This was from Jessica, Mikes girlfriend.

"Last,but definitely not least, Bella. She's the only Cullen by blood."Tyler said. He's in all of

my classes so far. When he said her name she looked over at our table as if she was called. "She

doesn't date. Apparently none of the guys here are good enough for her." When he said that I could

tell he had asked her out before. Whats weird is she smiled when he said it, I swear. Another weird

thing, she keeps giving me these weird looks, like she expects something and she isn't getting it.

I had biology with Bella the next hour. When the teacher sat me next to her she got this

look on her face like she smelled something bad. At the end of the hour she was out the door

before anyone had even picked up there books.
