Sparrow sat on the docks, waiting in silence as Spot walked up behind her. Sitting down, he fingered his cane, unsure of what to say. "I'm sorry Sparrow." He finally spoke, quiatly. Sparrow looked at him in surprise. Spot Conlon had just said sorry. That wasn't a word you heard from the great Brooklynn leader every day.
"Why did ya do it?"
"I'm not sure. He just made me so angry. I couldn't help myself..."
"He's my older brother Spot."
"I know."
"You know how protective he gets. He won't ever let me come to Brooklynn now. We won't ever see each other."
Spot hung his head sadly. His body shaking, he put a hand to his face, as if to hide. Sparrow watched him out of consern before realizing he was crying. Tears were finding their way down his face, causing dark stains to appear on his white shirt.
After a few minutes Spot looked up and wiped away the tears.
"Your my goil Sparrow. I don't want to lose ya."
Sparrow reached out and took Spots hand in hers. It was the only way she knew to comfort Spot without making him feel like a child.
Spot leaned towards Sparrow and kissed her lightly on the lips.
"I'm gonna miss ya goil."
Sparrow nodded. "Me too."
The two stood up and Spot watched in sorrow as Sparrow started to walk away. Pausing in her step, she turned and ran back. Spot caught her in his arms and she cried as they hugged and kissed. Eventually Spot pushed her away, resuming some of his old, sure self. "Ya better go 'fore your brother comes lookin for ya."
"Ya, your right."
Sparrow looked up into Spots eyes. He looked down at her. "I'll always love ya Sparrow."
"I love ya too Spot. I'll never forget ya."
This time, when Sparrow walked away, she didn't stop and turn back. Instead, she glanced once over her shoulder, waved goodbye, and continued walking, knowing she could never be with Spot Conlon again.
The End
