If Let the Right One In takes place in 2009.
Eli sees the boy sitting at the jungle gym losing himself with something he's playing with in his hands. Approaches and sits by him.
Eli: "What's that?"
Oskar: "PSP."
Eli: "Is that a puzzle?"
Oskar: "AYSOS?"
Eli: "FU2."
Oskar: "Hey! Chill. I'm just saying. You ain't know nothing. Don't your folks buy you stuff?"
Eli: "Nope."
Oskar: "Ha. Guess playing WOW with you is out of question, huh?"
Back in her apartment, Eli is web surfing news on her new 7000-hour-battery-life MacBook Pro using Firefox via wireless Internet connection behind the military-grade firewall she's set up. She IMs Håkan upon reading a news story.
Eli: "haven't u heard there making human blood out of stem cells?" Sending her message via MSN.
Upon receiving Eli's message on his Blackberry, Håkan replies back—
Håkan : "u could of told me that b4 I got u *food* :/"
Eli has a part-time job as a home-based counselor for a suicide hotline. That's how she sometimes obtains the information of persons she wants Håkan to "meet."
Eli met Håkan online. His screen name was swedecutiepie14, an old fart pretending to be a fjortisar. Eli counter-lured him and called him into service. Or else she'd post his (true) pictures on Facebook and Flickr, and send his story to Perez Hilton.
Eli obtained Håkan's personal information by hacking into his Yahoo! account and by calling the schools he previously worked for by pretending doing reference check from a would-be employer, as well as via a series of other social engineering schemes.
Eli is smart and good with technology. Like, once, when Oskar, upon being handed some money by Eli who wanted to get him a new iPhone, asked her—
Oskar: "Where's the money come from?"
Eli: "Remember the Nigerian prince email everyone's received? ..."
Back home, Oskar, not having a single picture of Eli, is downloading pictures of girls from the Internet. Sometimes he would photoshop a picture (juxtapose himself to an Eli-lookalike, for example), print it and then stick it around a printout he's posted on the wall. The printout of an SMS Eli sent him after their first sleepover.
