He couldn't do anything right. No matter how hard Gir tried, Zim was never impressed. He always glared at Gir with that disappointed scowl. Never happy, always angry. It never changed, and it had always been that way. From the moment they had met, Gir knew Zim didn't like him. But of course, he had been too hyper, too full of life to care. Now it bothered him. The little robot wanted to please his Irken master so badly, but he always screwed up. Today was no different.

"Gir! Get down here!" Zim growled and waited for the robot to enter the base.

"Yes Master?" Gir leaned on the door frame and peered into the room. He hoped Zim had a surprise for him, maybe cupcakes or another yummy treat.

"You are supposed to be on watch while I was gone! So, explain how that... horrible DIB-BEAST infiltrated my base!"

Girs face fell. No special treat today.

"I... was watching, Master. B-but then I remembered how angry you's been so I made ya a present!" Gir held up a small card. It was poorly made, but you could tell he'd put a lot of work into it.

Zim scowled, snatched the card, and crumpled it without even bothering reading it.

"Go watch TV, Gir. You are no longer useful to the mission. In fact, you never were. You're a failure, Gir." He then threw the crumpled card into the corner and watched as the sobbing robot retreated from the base.

He hadn't even read the card. He'd crumped it without taking the time to realize the little robot meant no harm. Gir just sat on the couch and cried, not even wanting to watch TV. He didn't want to do anything. It seemed nothing could cheer him up. He had failed. He was suppsed to help his Master, but Zim saw him as a failure. "Useless," he'd said. "Bad for the mission." Gir was used to his Masters bipolar attitude, used to the everyday insults, but this was the worst. Zim had never acted like this before, and it tore the little robot apart. He just wanted Zim to appreciate him, to love him like a little brother. But it was no use trying anymore. Zim would never care about him, no matter how hard he tried. Gir was useless to him.
