Chapter 1
One night in Stars Hollow Lucas walks into the diner with a basketball under his arm and walks up to the counter.
'' smells good in here. Did you change your hair?'' he tells and asks Lorelai
''If by "change" you mean "dragged a brush through it," then yeah.'' she tells him
''Well, it looks nice.'' he tells her
''Thank you.'' Lorelai says
''The magazine pages are sticky again.'' Rory tells him
''Oh, hey, Luke. You been reading this?'' Rory asks him
''Is that the "why do I hang out with these people?" Issue, because you're on the cover of that, right?'' he asks her
''No, actually, it's the "my best friend is an idiot" issue, and there you are.'' Rory tells him
''Lucas, would you like to join us? '' Lorelai asks him
''Rory, do you uh mind if I join you?''Lucas asks her
''no, go right ahead.'' she tells him
''okay.'' he says andsits downnext to her with his cup of hot chili
''So, honey, how was your day?'' Lorelai asks her
''Good, thanks.'' Rory tells her
" Good" is relative, considering a third of the world is starving, which does not change the fact that I am clumsy as hell. Did I tell you that i fell down today? Yeah, slipped off the curb, face down, butt in the air.
''Too graphic? Sorry. I'll just be quiet.'' Rory says
''So, I got something for you, Lucas.'' Lorelai tells him
''Actually, I found it. Not that I was looking for something specifically, which implies some hideous sort of "Joey loves Dawson " scenario and completely creep me out, but, you know, we saw it, and...'' Rory tells him
''Well, give him the book.'' Rory tells her mom
''Wow. "Julius Caesar." Lucas says
"There's a tide in the affairs of men" - or something like that.'' Lorelai tells him
''Nice. Thank you, guys. Thank you very much.'' he thanks them
''Whatever. That's what you're into.'' Rory tells him
