Clark stands before his parents, feeling like a disobedient child. He wrings his hands behind his back, expecting the blow to come at any time. His parents would never hit him, but the fear of what they will say or how they will look at him in the next second is far more frightening for the boy who can bend steel with his bare hands. He feels Lex behind him, shuffling nervously from one foot to the other, but there's little even the man he loves can say or do to make this moment easier. " . . . in love," he finishes, lowering his head and waiting.

"Clark - " his father starts immediately, but it's his mother who bursts out.

"I knew it!" Martha Kent exclaims, jubilantly throwing up her arms. "I knew it! I knew you were more than just friends!" She hugs Clark, then hurries around him and clasps Lex into a giant, bear hug. "Welcome to the family!"

"Martha -"

"Not a word, Jonathan Kent. Not. A. Word." She glowers at her husband over Lex's head until Jonathan finally lowers his own head.

"Welcome, Lex," he intones.

Clark's beaming smile is only made wider as his mother grabs him into her hug with Lex.

The End
