My first fanfiction on this site huh? The first books I ever read were Harry Potter, when I was like 5 (I was an early reader if you can't tell XD) and I've been hooked ever since. I thought it was only fitting to write a fanfiction about it. This is just a quick one chapter story I came up with. I hope you enjoy!
Ginny set the dining table for three. Three forks. Three knives. Three plates. Three napkins. She wiped a bit of sweat off her forehead and examined her handywork. The living room looked as neat as it possibly could have. Especially since she had only used a few simple charms that she had learned in her third year of Hogwarts. Ginny smiled to herself. Then she looked down at her large stomach below her. "Hey James…" she whispered, "…think about it. Soon I'll always have to set the table for three…". Quietly, The Boy Who Lived snuck up on his wife, risking his life (though it had yet to leave him). "Harry Potter, you can not scare me!" Ginny laughed at her husband.
"Ginny, you wonderful women, you can be incredibly irritating," Harry chuckled. With a smile still on his face, Harry touched his wife's stomach. "Hey James, ho-" suddenly the doorbell rang loudly. Harry took a deep breath as he readjusted his suit collar. He had chosen a dark blue jacket, with matching trousers, and a light yellow shirt. "Ginny I don't know if I'm ready for this…I haven't seen him in who knows how long…". Ginny looked at Harry with a serious face.
"Harry Potter you're the boy who lived and if you've survived me you'll be able to survive him!" She whispered loudly. Harry nodded with an anxious but grateful smile and started for the door.
"Hey Big D…" Harry said nervously. His cousin, still larger and bulkier than normal, was now full of muscle, not fat. His blond hair was quiffed up nearly identically to Harry's. And he wore a huge smile with straight white teeth.
"Harry…damn it's been a long time…" Dudley Dursley replied.
"Yeah, yeah it has"
"Ginny this is delicious!" Dudley said with a full mouth. He was having his fourth serving, though it had only been ten minutes since he had arrived to the Potter's household. It appeared Dudley had never quite lost his appetite.
"At least one man in this house can appreciate my cooking!" Ginny said playfully glaring at Harry. Harry rolled his eyes and shoved more chicken into his mouth.
"So Harry, I wanted to talk to you for well a…special…reason…" Dudley said, slightly quieter than normal. "Nothing huge, just thought I should fill you in on a bit of my life so far…"
"What you can't just say hi to your favorite cousin?" Harry asked jokingly.
"Yeah yeah," Dudley laughed back. "Well, see, I know you've never met my wife-awfully sorry I didn't invite you to the wedding by the way, dad went beserk when I offered the idea of you coming-but she's...well...she's one of you." Dudley furiously shook his head, "That sounds rude, what am I doing? She. She's a witch".
"My my, I'm surprised one of Vernon's descent could stand magical filth..." Harry exclaimed sarcastically. There was a cutting bitter tone to his voice as he remembered the torture he went through in his youth. But he soon realized Dudley was sweating nervously know, and Ginny was shooting daggers at him. "God, I'm sorry to be rude Dudley, you can continue".
"It's alright," Dudley said understandingly. "I saw what Dad did to you…" Harry nodded, thankful that his cousin understood. "Well, as I was saying, my wife, Lavender is her name, well she actually claims to have met you. Says she dated your best friend. Ron, am I correct?" This made both Harry and Ginny burst out laughing. Dudley had married Lavender Brown, the girl who had been obsessed with Ron when they were sixteen. After many apologies for the loud snorting, Dudley was able to continue with a comforted smile. He was feeling even more comfortable with Harry and Ginny. "Well we had a daughter a year ago, named her Claire. She's absolutely amazing, the light of our lives. But she isn't like other babies…"
Harry could already see where this was going. Could it be? Had Vernon Dursley's kin really not only fallen in love with a witch, but fathered one too?
"Lavender says she must be a witch. I believe her. I mean, she had it in her blood, and I mean you are my cousin," Dudley said. He was excited, rushing through his words, and in fact was barely audible. He had clearly wanted to spill this secret to Harry for a while now.
"Well that's great!" Ginny said, finally joining the conversation. Harry suddenly realized how long she had gone without really contributing and noted that he should tease her about it later. "I'm sure it's no surprise that we have a kid on the way too. Maybe our children will go to Hogwarts together! Oh they'd be such good friends, though if our James will be as much trouble as Harry we'll have to ask Claire to look out for him!" Ginny laughed. Her charm never left her, and the two men chuckled right along, even if what Ginny had said wasn't particularly funny.
"Harry, see of course I'd want to see you after all this time, but I could've just mailed the news to you. I have something I'd like to ask of you," Dudley said, suddenly very serious.
"What is it Dud?" Harry asked. He cocked his right eyebrow up, slightly confused. What could Dudley want of him?
"Well, I thought it was only suiting that you and Claire were to meet. Soon. And of course I'd want you and Lavender to meet...er...again. I mean, I know I've made this a large enough deal as it is, but would you like to stay at our house for Christmas?" Dudley blurted out. He felt somewhat of an idiot. He had made a mountain out of a molehill. For God's sake he was asking his cousin to stay over for Christmas! He nervously clutched the back of his neck with his left hand.
Harry and Ginny both smiled gently. Harry could understand Dudley's struggle. After all, Harry himself had been stressing out for the past week about Dudley coming over for dinner. He knew how much this meant to his cousin. They hadn't seen each other in years, this could be their first holiday together. "Of course," Harry said, taking Ginny's hand. "We'd love to".
I don't think that was incredibly bad, but I'd love to hear what you guys think. I know it wasn't great, but I shall try to improve. Please remember to review!
