Hey! I have a new story! I was reading 'Impressions' by borntoflyhigh, and it inspired this! By the way, you NEED to read Impressions! I love it, and it is amazingly awesome! So I am dedicating this story to borntoflyhigh!
They were twins, not carbon copies, not spares or replacements, and certainly not 'the same person'. So why is it, that when people talk to them, they expect that they will have the same opinion, or response? They think their personalities are the same, as well as their interests and religions.
Oliver was nothing like his twin, although they looked the same. Gene was the type to think of the glass half full, while Oliver didn't give a damn about the glass or its content. Gene was the type to see the good in people, Oliver was the type to ignore them outright. Gene was the type to embrace love and affection, and Oliver was the type to shut it out. He felt it a waste of time...
Oliver didn't care for idle chit-chat, or gossip about people he didn't know or care about. He didn't care for parties or social conventions. And he didn't care for the popularity chain or climbing it.
His brother wasn't exactly concerned with these things either, but he knew of them, and was involved in them. He didn't have the heart to reject them, since it would mean rejecting the people who were obsessed with them. Well maybe they weren't obsessed but they cared way to much about it...
Nowadays, Oliver wasn't Genes replacement, his failed carbon copy, or him for that matter. He was just Oliver, or Naru as Mai dubbed him. These people he worked with, hadn't met Gene. You would think Naru would be happy they didn't have anyone to compare him too, but he was devastated. He would rather be the 'bad twin', the 'cold twin' or even the 'lesser twin' as people would say in hushed conversation. They would never even consider his academic achievements. Despite all this, he loved his twin, and would do just about anything to have him back...
After Gene's body was found however, was the first time Oliver felt anything other than love and admiration for his twin. Mai hadn't known about Gene, and didn't know the man of her dreams wasn't himself. It had come as quite a shock to Naru, that Mai had known him... the girl he had established feelings for, had mistaken his brother for himself.
Why would she be any different? Why would Mai pick him, over the better twin?
"Naru... what do you mean your leaving?" Mai asked, feeling her heart ach. She lowered her head, her eyes shut tight.
"I'm going back to England" Naru told her, his voice harbouring no coldness or hate, even though his heart twisted painfully. He knew if Mai and Gene had met before his death, they would have made the perfect couple... and Naru, well he would watch from afar, surrendering to his fate of deserved loneliness. And still, he wouldn't hate his twin...
"Naru..." Mai whispered, her voice coming out in pained gasps. "Please, don't le-leave me Naru" Mai begged, her tears falling to the floor. Naru couldn't stand seeing her so upset, but he knew he would just course more pain. "I- I think I..." Mai shuddered, trying her best to find her nerve. "I think I love you Naru!" Mai spat out, not sure what to do next. Naru closed his eyes, trying to convince himself it was plain irritation, not the pain he knew it was.
"Me or Gene...
His is the end... I think? I don't know... if you have any ideas that you think would work, then maybe I will continue? Thank you so much for reading! Please, please tell me what you think! Leave a review, it only takes a second!
