Chief Science Officer's Log

We are in Standard Orbit around Gliese667C c. Early science surveys once showed this planet to be one which may be capable of supporting Earth-like life. In an effort to find suitable planets for possible civilian evacuation of our planet, as well as any natural resources we might use in war against the Romulans, Starfleet has sent a fleet of ships out in exploration of similar such planets and star systems. I can only imagine what life is like back home and I feel very honored to be selected amongst this crew to explore and survey what has long been considered one of the more viable Super-Earths. Our scanners indicate a high pressure atmosphere, which has contained a significant amount of heat, particularly on the solar side of the planet. Captain Thor Odinson is preparing for the beamdown of an away team close to the border of the day-side of this tidally-locked planet. The hope is to learn as much as we can, within the safe confines of our biosuits, which will hopefully grant us the necessary protection from planetary pressures and M-dwarf radiation.
"Loki, you are requested in the transporter room, as soon as you are ready."
Loki pressed a button next to the mirror of his dresser.
"Inform the Captain I shall be joining the away team in 0645 hours. I am merely adjusting the functions of my tricorder to accommodate likely interference."
"Acknowledged."
He was excited as he donned his science blue uniform. This was an opportunity many in the Academy had only dreamt of. He would be one of the first to explore this planet. Loki rechecked his tricorder. It would have to be able to gather all the necessary information. He'd outfitted it for any conceivable instance when he had been planetside, but along the way, a few dozen more instances had been conceived. He did not know if he was truly ready, but part of what Starfleet was included the unknown. He had joined for that ever expanding base of knowledge. Every website, every library on Earth would not provide the experience the practice of field study would. Thankfully, the war with the Romulans had provided the funding needed to further that study.
It was, he thought as he finally put the tricorder strap around his neck and proceeded from his quarters, possibly the only good thing to come from the Romulans' conquesting war. He knew his command counterparts did not necessarily feel the same the agitation he had sensed on the bridge, he could tell that Captain Odinson's preference had not been to go on a science voyage. While Loki had no idea what had possessed Starfleet to send such a war-ready young captain out almost 7 parsecs from earth, he knew he'd have to simply find his way around this personality. That was no problem. Working the system was a personal speciality Loki kept a private pride in. He was confident he would soon learn how to get exactly what he needed from Odinson. Perhaps they could even be friendly.
