Hermione's POV
'I am so sick of Ron! He's just a lame excuse for a wizard!' I thought. I was walking away from the castle and the Yule Ball. Ron had just told me off for going with Victor Krum. Like he cared! Just the other day, he was on about getting his autograph! He has a lot of nerve! And he was all about Fleur Delacour and asking her! I came as a last resort!
I walked for what felt like hours. The next thing I knew, there was a loud cracking sound from behind me. I turned around just in time to see a branch coming at me. I dodged it and then I saw it. I was in front of the Womping Willow! Another branch came at me but I couldn't dodge it this time. It hit me in the gut, causing the wind to get knocked out of me, and threw me over towards the lake. Just before I hit the water, I tentacle came shooting out of the water and grabbed me. It pulled me into the water. I tried to grab my want but it fell into the water. I was doomed. I was going to drown. I held my breath for as long as I was getting harder to hold it. Just then, a red light came shooting through the water and hit the giant squid. I was free from the grip. But too late. My lungs were desperate for oxygen. I unwillingly took a short breath but began coughing a short time after. I was about to pass out. My eyes went blurry, I went numb, and I started to sink further and further into the blackness of the water. Before everything around me went black, I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist, and saw a redheaded teen pulling me up.
George's POV
I saw Hermione getting pulled down into the lake by that giant squid. I acted fast. I jumped in, despite Fred's protests, and stunned the squid. I grabbed Hermione and brought her up to the surface. Fred was there waiting for me. I handed Hermione to him and then got out myself once I reached the edge. Fred laid her down in the grass. He obviously didn't know what to do or he wasn't thinking straight.
"What the bloody hell happened?" he asked.
"I don't know." I told him. I put my ear up to Hermione's mouth and nose to see if she was breathing. She wasn't. There was no movement in her chest either. I put my fingers on her wrist to see if she had a pulse. She did. Just a slight one. I knew I had to get the water out of her lungs before I did CPR, so I put my hand on the middle of her chest, and pushed down twenty times. I checked her breathing again. Nothing. I was about do it again, when she started coughing up water. "Hermione are you alright?" I asked her. She nodded. Fred and I both sighed of relief.
"What happened?" she asked.
"You almost drowned in the black lake from that giant squid. You almost died on us." I told her. She look ready to pass out. I put one arm under her legs the other on her back and lifted her up. "I'm taking you to Madam Pomfrey." I told her.
