Sorry for the title, haha, I always have a problem with them XP

This is set in the middle of House of Hades but the only spoiler present is for the end of The Mark of Athena, so preferably you'll have at least finished that if you don't want anything spoiled. Nothing really big, though. I wrote this because I felt that Jason's comments were silly, not the kind of thing any boy in the history of ever would say, plus it's not really a healthy mindset to have in a relationship. So I kind of delved into that lightly. I hope you enjoy :)

"I'm luck to have you."

"I don't deserve."

They sound like sweet things to say, don't they? The kind of thing that the handsome character that everyone and their mother is in love with in a TV show says (maybe someone like her dad), while looking directly at the screen, making women across the globe swoon.

But that's the thing, isn't it? It's what you want your celebrity crush or the character you've been drooling over ever since you first met him (who is, in the fact, the only reason you're watching that show) to say, to fuel the fantasies in your head. Not your boyfriend. Not your friend either, for that matter. It suggests distance, uncertainty, settling for whatever you can get because you don't deserve it all. It doesn't take a child of Aphrodite to know that these are not the kinds of things that are healthy in a relationship.

Jason says these things with a strange expression, a hodgepodge of wistfulness, sadness, and a faraway look. It's this expression and these words that scare Piper, makes her call the son of the sky back to Earth, with just the slightest hint of Charmspeak accenting her words to add a bit of kick. They do deserve each other, there's nothing uneven about it at all. Piper can see that Jason is going through a lot, of course. He's going through a certain identity crisis, struggling with his Greek and Roman sides, and all while trying to lead five demigods after Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus. But he's still a great leader, an amazing swordsman, a good man - and the fact that he's the son of Jupiter helps. He just needs to see that for himself. Until he does, Piper will do her best to support him as best she could.

Keeping their relationship healthy and strong shouldn't be too hard. It is, after all, in the blood.
