Disclaimer: I do not own the Xfiles or the characters. I am just borrowing them for a little while! I promise to return them :D
A/N: M rating is because of character death and I am a worry wort! I have never written a Xfiles Fanfiction before so please be nice and review, I would really enjoy it! I don't know how to get a beta so if anyone knows please tell me. For now all mistakes are mine and I will keep trying to fix them.
Mulder stood over her cold body. He knew this day would come, the day he would finally kill her. Scully had been through so much. She carried too much pain with her. Mulder knew she never blamed him for Melissa but he never understood why. It was his quest, his unquenchable thirst for 'the truth' that had lead to the bounty put on Scully. Only by accident and the screwed up world he lived in that Scully's unexpecting innocent sister was shot instead.
Then there was Emily. What more could he say about that. It had torn her and nearly destroyed their relationship. Mulder knew that she couldn't have children and he kept that from her. Just after promising there would be no more secrets. He knew he had been the cause for all of Scully's pain. If it wasn't for him and all the baggage Scully would be alive with children and happy. Children, children… 'ren' not child. Not the one she had to watch painfully die at such an innocent age or their son.
William. Mulder knew that that was the last thread. It was just too much. The baby which had they had tried so hard for, cried over too much, she had to give away. Too much pain for too long.
Mulder stared at her eyes willing them to open up one last time. He wanted to pray and plea to her god that her chest would move, her body would regain the life he'd taken away ten years ago. He wanted to believe so much that it would happen so he would be able to say goodbye, to say sorry. But he knew it was unfair. She had chosen when to leave, she had every right. Mulder leaned down and touched his forehead against hers for the last time.
Instead he finally prayed two words; be happy.
