Featuring KakaObito, KakaIta, and Kakasasu, not to mention lots of kakashi!angst...

His is a tired, stolen relationship. Strained, because stone doesn't speak very often. Simple, because it does listen.

He visits every once in a while. Usually he finds himself there after being given a particularly difficult mission. He takes care never to get caught there, by anyone

He wonders if the old man knows, the one who seems to know everything that goes on in his town.

He wonders if anyone knows the envy he holds in his heart for the dead. The ability to drop his burden (there's always a burden) and pay for his sins and stop the nothingness with a new kind of unknown.

He almost misses not knowing what it is like to kill someone. He almost misses having a father (surrogate or otherwise). He almost misses having best friends.

Sometimes he forgets how young he is and looks forward to death like others look towards birthdays: just around the bend. Because he's almost forgotten what it's like to celebrate life.

---

When he gets drunk and fucks the newbie, no one is surprised. Neither of them will live for long, it is presumed, so there is no point in spreading rumors. Only the ANBU know. Like so many other sharp truths of life.

When he fucks the not-quite-so-newbie again, perhaps he is a little surprised at himself. Certainly, he doesn't like creating ties. Once, fine, but two looks like carelessness, he thinks to himself.

He only lasts a week before doing it again.

He wonders if it has something to do with the increased stress he's under. He wonders if it's just relieving to know that he's not the only genius out there. He wonders if it's just another self-destructive behavior.

Because he's never sure how his own self works.

He doesn't think about the fact that they are both Uchiha.

He isn't surprised when he breaks. Breaks ranks, breaks the family, breaks the town, breaks a heart. Isn't really surprised, but that doesn't stop the hurt.

Maybe he's a little closer to death, he thinks, and that makes everything better.

He took one look at this child and immediately started the process of cutting him off from his life.

Even though the red and black temptation was there.

He struggled to remember the first and the 'father' that had saved him.

Yellow and black?

Not again.

And then he tried and hoped, and it all fell apart, and where to go but his old fraternity?

Death welcomes him back with open arms, the only one who ever has.
