"In Another Life"

G was silent. It was a skill he had picked up as an agent when there were times you could speak and other times you couldn't; when your life depended on it.

For a few minutes he watched the scene across the street, the plain suburban house and the little boy playing outside. Taking a deep breath he stepped out of the car, the door making a soft clicking noise behind him. He crossed the street quietly, crossing and another point so he wasn't seen, at least not yet. Then he walked down the sidewalk until he was within speaking distance of the little boy who was stretched out on his stomach absorbed in drawing pictures with sidewalk chalk, G smiled to himself, the little boy's blonde hair was tousled and there was a smudge of blue chalk on his cheek, he only looked up when G approached, carefully stepping around him.

"Hi." The little boy said simply. The boy could have been his, maybe he was, that was only one of G's questions, but there was so much more to the truth that had to be unraveled.

"Hi." G replied and then the boy simply nodded and returned to his artwork.

Here goes nothing, G thought, because he knew Kristen would appear. As the boy had looked up at him G could almost see the question "who is this guy" forming in his mind; that was when he saw Kristen walking out of the house; in fact, she didn't really seem that surprised that he had unexpectedly drop by.

"Sorry I didn't call-er…" G trailed off, uncharacteristically at a loss for words, but Kristen only smiled faintly and shook her head. Anything she could've said was well past being said so.

G's eyes traveled back to the small boy on the sidewalk trying to collect his thoughts. He knew she had questions and he had answers, but like Hetty said he had a choice, but now he didn't feel like he had much of one. This was a fantasy, an alternate reality he could've taken, but that would've meant living a lie and giving up a promising career.

G took a deep breath, for the first time in years it was time to be honest and face the reality of the life he could have had.
