Ugh, not again! Hermione thought. Why must I always walk in on them snogging? Ron and Lavender were once again sitting on the common room sofa with their lips glued together. Every time Hermione saw them together, a great wave of jealousy erupted in her heart. How she wished that she could just tell Ron exactly what she felt for him: love. Not the brother-sister love that she and Harry had, but love. She was in love with him. If only he felt the same way.
I set out on a narrow way many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
---------
Ron and Lavender broke apart and he looked into her eyes. These aren't the right eyes. They should be the eyes of a girl who most likely doesn't have the same feelings back. Every time he looked at Lavender he thought of Hermione. He didn't understand how it worked; sometimes he couldn't stand Hermione. Too perfect, always badgering him to do his homework, study for tests. And yet, all of those things only made him love her more. If only she felt the same way.
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
---------
Hermione ran upstairs to her empty dormitory and flung herself upon her bed. I'm being selfish, she thought. As long as Ron's happy, I suppose I don't care. Yeah, right, we'll see how long that lasts. She collected herself and slid off the bed to get some books to study. As soon as she opened her trunk she heard a faint knock on the door.
---------
"Hermione?" It was Ron. "Can I come in; or rather you come out, since I'm technically not allowed to be in there?" Hermione was aghast, and yet, she rushed to the door and tore it open. Ron was leaning against the door frame, looking sheepish and uncomfortable. "Ok, let's go." They made their way outside and stopped when they got to their favorite tree by the lake. The cool breeze was calming, making the situation a little more comfortable.
"So, what's up?" Hermione said as she sat down under the shady tree. Ron didn't sit.
"Hermione, I need to tell you something." Ron said. "I know we fight… constantly." Hermione laughed; it was one of the things that she loved about Ron. "But, I've made a mistake and I've been making the same mistake for the past six years. I don't know how to say this."
"Ron, just tell me. You can tell me anything." Hermione said, starting to become nervous.
"Lavender and I broke up." Ron finally said. It looked like a huge weight had been lifted from him. "Okay, sorry, that was a little sudden." Hermione had hoped that the confusion hadn't shown on her face.
"Oh, it's fine. I'm sorry, are you ok? I mean, I know you really liked her and everything." Ron laughed.
"That's what you think? Wow Hermione, I thought you were smarter than that." What do you mean? Hermione thought. When she didn't say anything, Ron spoke.
"Hermione, I never liked her. Ever. I was tired of wondering, so I went out with her. I've liked the same girl for six years. Hermione, it's you. I love you, and I always have. I don't know if you feel the same way, but I just needed to tell you that."
Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart they were like Northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true
---------
Hermione was stunned. Did that really just happen? I think it did, but what do I do now? She grabbed Ron's hand and he helped her up. She put her arms around his neck, and Ron wrapped his arms around her waist. "Do I feel the same way? I'll let you know." It happened so naturally, she leaned in and kissed him full on the mouth. The best part is that he kissed back.
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
