It had been a week since he had last seen his wingman. The lupine sighed as he took a drag from his cigarette, had it been a good idea to start a mercenary group at such a young age? They were just 16 years old when he and Leon made up their minds, they had fulfilled 5 missions already in 3 months, but they always had to put their life on the lines, gaining experience was a must, if they wanted to keep on alive and in such a dangerous business.
But Leon also had a side job, and Wolf knew about it, and even if he wasn't quite convinced with the idea of his partner being a part time assassin, he never tried to stop him, they had a silent respect for each other, and Wolf didn't know everything about Leon's past, but decided not to push the other. Their relationship was one of pure trust and balance, they complemented each other, but that didn't stop the wolf from worrying when the chameleon disappeared for such a long time.
As if summoned, the door to the apartment opened and Leon walked in silently, expressionless, heading directly to the bathroom, throwing his coat on the floor and turning the water faucet on. Wolf sighed and stood up from the bed, walking slowly towards the bathroom, which Leon had left open.
"Leon…" Wolf whispered as he saw the small reptile sitting on the bathtub, his body covered in blood, staring straight at the wall as the water washed the crimson liquid away. He looked up at Wolf, as if acknowledging him, as Wolf entered the tub all clothed and hugged Leon closely, pulling him on his lap and wrapping his arms around him.
"This is not your blood, right?"
Leon nodded softly. "I'm fine"
Wolf nuzzled Leon's head, kissing it and hugging him tighter, the water soaking all his fur and clothes but he didn't care, he was glad Leon was back.
"I'm glad you're not hurt...how are you?"
Leon relaxed in Wolf's embrace, curling his tail around Wolf's. "A bit terrified"
Wolf kissed Leon's nape. "I'm here for you, you know that, I'll always be here for you"
Leon turned to face Wolf, hugging him and burying his face on the lupine's chest.
"I know" he bit his lower lip, trying his best not to cry, but failed as his body trembled softly and silent tears ran down his face. Wolf rubbed Leon's back, he had met the chameleon 2 years ago, Leon was already an assassin when they met, but still there were some times were the reptile would just stare blankly at the walls or cry quietly on the shower. Wolf thought it wiser not to meddle on Leon's affairs, unless the chameleon felt like telling him about his missions, which was rare.
"Wolf…"
"Yes?"
"Thank you"
Wolf cupped Leon's face gently and smiled at him softly. "Don't thank me" he then kissed the other's lips tenderly, Leon deepened the kiss and wrapped his arms around Wolf. He felt safe when his lover held him close, he felt safe with everything about Wolf, the whole universe could explode for all he cared as long as he was with Wolf.
"I love you" Wolf whispered to Leon and Leon returned his feelings with a chaste kiss and a silent "I love you too".
