Chapter one:

Mere Curiosity

It was New Years Eve at Hogwarts in 1942 and everyone was in the Great Hall for the celebration dinner. Brushing her lengthy blond hair with her fingers, a female that happened to be a half blood was sitting at the Ravenclaw table amongst her house friends. She was born into a pure blooded wizarding family but her dad wasn't even a wizard. Her dad happened to be a vampire that her mother, a pure blood Ravenclaw alumni, was compelled by and had gotten pregnant by. That's is how she came to be - the half witch and half vampire was named Elizabeth Winters.

Elizabeth had trouble fitting in her first couple of years at Hogwarts due to her vampirism but now having it be her fifth year, she learned tactics to control herself and well she wasn't exactly the most rule abiding Ravenclaw though her qualities otherwise shown her house pride. She ate normal food like her school mates but also had to get her blood intake once or twice a week, that was when she would be trouble in addition to one other thing. She would use the opportunity to sneak out to the forbidden forest and grab a bite, though of course the school would supply a alternative while she was there but she didn't like it. The other trouble she had to control herself on was not to compel anyone once she learned that aspect of herself though this was a rule for every vampire that attended Hogwarts.

There was a boy by the name of Tom Riddle that had been considered 'odd' in her year. She wasn't sure why he wasn't too fond of social interaction but he always seemed like a loner. Elizabeth laid her head on her hands as she listened in on her friends chattering and laughing at the table before glancing her blue eyes curiously over towards the Slytherin table across the room. Tom Riddle had been sitting there awkwardly silent as if he was simply annoyed with the current celebration, had nobody known December 31st was his sixteenth birthday. Being interrupted of her focus, her friend Caroline asked a question but frowned when Elizabeth didn't hear her.

"Elizabeth..." her friend Caroline shook her arm before Elizabeth turned her focus onto her friend. "Sorry, what was it?" she asked before taking a spoonful of the pudding that was in her bowl.

"What are your plans for the new year? i heard we get the day off tomorrow due to the holiday." Caroline gushed. Elizabeth shrugged before parting her lips to reply, "Not quite positive. Maybe a stroll through Hogsmeade or stay in."

Noticing more students leaving the Great Hall, Elizabeth sighed before taking another mouthful of her pudding. Honestly, Elizabeth felt bad for Tom Riddle in some odd reason. There has been numerous rumors about him going around the school, having one of them being that he's an orphan. Elizabeth knew the feeling of being an outcast herself being half vampire, she wasn't popular but she had a couple of friends within her house and one in Gryffindor. Noticing Tom walking out the front door, she got up after taking a swing of her pumpkin juice and decided to turn in as well.

Elizabeth exited the Great Hall, scanning the hallway with her blue eyes before they spotted Tom Riddle paused at the moment as he stared straight ahead at the wall then locked his piercing eyes at Elizabeth for a mere moment. He then decided on walking from the crowd towards the Slytherin dungeons. Elizabeth then walked off towards the Ravenclaw tower, knowing within a few hours she will be sneaking out to feed.

Hours passed by as Elizabeth sat on the couch in the common room pretending to study as everyone went to bed. Closing her potions book, she stuffed it in her book bag and put that under the table. She got up off the couch and walked out of the tower, knowing the portrait guarding the house was napping herself. Leaving the tower, Elizabeth headed towards the hallway that would lead towards the exit of the castle towards the grounds. As she walked, she felt the slight burning sensation in her throat but before she hit the door to exit the castle, she had heard footsteps behind her.

Hoping that the footsteps weren't a professor, Elizabeth turned around to notice someone had been watching her, but it wasn't a teacher. Steps away was none other than Tom Riddle with a slight smirk upon his face, fiddling with his fingers. Parting his lips as his eyes flickered up at her as he did so. "What are you doing out of bed, after hours?" he asked smugly.
