I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as I sat down. Being the only male in a

room full of about forty or so women is slightly unnerving. I guess that's

the price you pay to participate in your children's school lives. Still, I fidgeted a lot. Sandy Rodriguez took her seat at the front with Paula Dullard and Mrs. Valentine (a/n: that's Eddie's mom but I don't know her first name) there was also another woman at the front but I have never seen her before, I assumed she was a teacher. Sandy yelled, "Excuse me!" to stop all the talking, "I call this PTA meeting to order," everyone stopped talking to listen and I followed suit even though I wasn't making much conversation. Sandy started the meeting with a discussion about clubs that I found to be extremely loooonggg and boring (a/n: sandy = president, Paula = VP, Mrs. Valentine = treasurer, teacher = secretary)

I slumped in my seat a little because I was so bored, then I looked around and noticed everyone sitting up looking attentively at the front desk at the officers and again I mimicked. I was listening to her drone on about the engineering club and as I scanned the front, I caught Paula's eye. She looked away quickly. But at that moment, I suddenly noticed some things about her I had never seen before. She has such perfect posture sitting in her chair and the way she sips her coffee is so... elegant. It wasn't until she looked at me again that I noticed I had been staring and I looked away.

After the meeting (that I barely caught a word of) I tried to make my way quickly to the door but was blocked when a group of ladies formed a crowd right in front of the main exit from the cafeteria. I decided to take a detour so I didn't get stuck in the herd. I walked around toward the front

desk/table thing were Paula was the only one left. She was struggling to carry two boxes full of order forms for a fundraiser. I decided this was my perfect chance. I walked over a little nervously, "need a hand?"

"oh! Thanks, that would be great!" she said relieved. We carried the box out to her car and stacked them in the back. "thanks so much! Those boxes must have been at least 10 pounds!" (a/n: I have no idea how heavy boxes of papers are so just go with it! XD) "so..." there was an awkward pause. "are... are you coming to the next meeting?" Paula asked me with a nervous laugh.

"I can't, I am taking Otto fishing all day for his birthday. I have been counting down the days until then!" I said excitedly Paula looked rather pleased, "that is so sweet! I think it's so great when people find time for their kids, it really shows what kind of person they are. Doug never..." she trailed off. "umm. sorry, I have to get going" she mumbled turning red.

"Well, I guess I'll see you around" I said lamely noticing how awkward the conversation had become. She climbed into her car and smiled at me. As I waved kind of dimly at her she drove away.

I melted as I thought of how she smiled at me.
