Chapter 1

Love At First Fight

"Woah lady " yelled Aang. "Slow down."

He might have been talking to a rock for all he knew because a split second later, an arm shot out at lightning speed towards his left shoulder.

He dropped down into a split so fast, he thought he heard something break. But a broken bone beat a numb arm...

Or did it..?

He had no time to muse over this before she lunged at him with her fists. He liked to call her hands the 'fists of fury' and thought it fascinating that she could kill bodies temporarily with those lethal limbs.

But he wasn't finding it fascinating anymore, mostly because the 'fists of fury' were now coming at him, faster than he could have ever imagined.

She threw her fists at the bald monk but he dodged her attack by bending backwards. She sailed over his lithe form but a lifetime in the circus had made her an expert at controlling her body.

Landing lightly on her feet, she whirled around and came back at him like a lightning bolt. Using all of the energy she had left, sheshot her hand at the bald monk to punch him (or a part of him) but the boy had, from nowhere, bent a large wave of water at her and she almost blacked out from the impact. Ignoring the urge to fall down into unconsciousness, she flipped herself back to her feet.

After a quick second or two, to catch her breath and clear her vision, she went after him again.

Aang was dead tired, and bending from a body of water almost two hundred feet away had drained him.

Only Master Pakku could do somethinglike that without feeling it, and even the aged waterbending master would probably require the assistance of the full moonto pull it off.

He dodged her attack again with a small sidestep and, with all the energy he had left, twirled his arms frantically before blasting an air cannon at her.

It hit her smack on the upper torso and sent her back by a few hundred feet.

'Good,'he thought.'Now I have time and space to get ready for her next attack.'

His quick thought was cut short by a scary realisation. She had, in fifteen short seconds, cleared that distance and was coming at him with a flying kick.

Aang had no time to think, let alone move. Her flying kick hit him square in the face and he thought he saw something that looked like a giant mushroom made of...sand, right before unconsciousness hit him.

Ty Lee finally let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding when she finally floored the bald avatar monk.

It had been harder than she thought and had taken a lot more time than Azula had envisaged...but Azula was right.

This boy was a serious threat. It was no wonder Azula had ordered two imperial benders to go with her to, in her exact words, 'restrain and capture the avatar.'

They had come ashore in a canoe rowed by the benders and they had, as per Azula's instructions split up when they had beached the canoe. She had gone left, one bender had gone right while the last one had taken the middle part of the little island.

Ty Lee gulped in fresh air. She had thought fighting him would be easy. She had even snickered when Azula had showed her his picture that the royal artist had drawn.

In the picture, he looked like a boy that lived in the mountains with a furry pet and herded sheep for a living. A boy that couldn't fight to save his life... But he could... And he had... And he had almost won...

"Enough lazying around," Ty Lee groaned to herself, "Time to get to work."

Azula had ordered her to restrain and bring the boy to the ship. She had restrained him all right. Now she just had to take him to the ship.

Azula would have come herself but she said she had important duties to attend to and Mai had boyfriend-related issues, or so she said.

Ty Lee knew the real reason why Mai had not come with her, Mai and Zuko wanted to spend time together (and probably make out) and Azula was too repulsed to say, let alone do anything about it.

Ty Lee knew there were two reasons *huff* "Wow this boy's heavy" *huff* why Azula didn't like Mai and Zuko's constant make-out sessions... One, because she was disgusted at the thought of anyone willingly touching her brother with their lips.

Two, because she was secretly jealous she had no one to do such things with.

The latter thought made Ty Lee grin, then laugh. And then she fell down with the bald monk on her. Her wandering thoughts had made her stand still with the heavy monk on her shoulder and her laughing had made her weak.

She was about to push him off so she could get up when she heard a deep rumbling sound. At first she thought it was the bald monk's stomach gurgling from something he ate. But then she heard the deep rumbling again followed shortly by a swift flash of light and a strong wind.

Her eyes widened when she realized what was happening. "Oh please no." Ty Lee begged no one in particular. "Agni no."

She pushed the avatar off her body, flipped to her feet and ran tothe shore where she left the canoe she came ashore in.

It wasn't there.

And the fire nation navy ship that had been anchored firmly in the middle of the sea wasn't there either. The two benders had obviously left in the canoe... Leaving her here... Alone.

But that wasn't what made her quiver in terror. As far as the eye could see, the sky was covered by a dark shroud of clouds so black, they stopped the setting sun's rays.

According to the captain, this island was notorious for it's constant rainfall and, most especially, it's storms... They, he had said, could last for as long as three days, beating down any and everything...

And she had just been stranded here... With an approaching storm.

Turning as fast as she could, she ran into the shelter of the trees, the wind already picking up in her ears, blowing sand about.

She needed to find a place to weather the storm... Until they came back for her.

Zooming past the trees, she ran, with the intention to dive into a large cave she had seen when she had been fighting the avatar boy.

She was close... So close, she could almost smell the dry comfort of the cave...when she tripped...over something and...hurtled through the air, like one of Mai's throwing knives.

For two full seconds, she felt weightless and helpless, as she spun in the air like a top. She couldn't right herself... She hadn't expected it, and so was unprepared for it...

Just before she landed, she heard Azula's voice in her head, telling her to be prepared for any and everything that happens.

If only Azula could see her now.

She landed with a loud SMACK! on her face and was temporarily blinded by a white flash... Her head began to hurt, and pound unbearably, and her vision dimmed considerably.

She got up quickly and tried to look around. Her vision swayed, like a ship in a storm, with each movement of her head that she made and she suspectedthat she was going to pass out in a few minutes.

If Azula could actually see her now...

She turned again and, after her undulating vision had calmed slightly, saw what tripped her.

It was the bald monk... The avatar... The avatar she had kicked in the face.

Turning her head and wincing as pain assaulted her brain, shefocused her vision and looked past the trees.

She could see it coming... Who couldn't see it?

Even a blind man would at least feel, and hear, it coming...

The mammoth thunderstorm, surging at the island like one of Azula's fireballs, growling like an enraged dragon...

Turning as fast as she could, without falling, she ran into the cave and planted herself in a warm corner.

It began to rain in buckets, and Ty Lee was getting very cold. She glanced at the avatar, still unconscious where he lay, furious raindrops bouncingoff his soaked body.

Ty Lee began to pity him. She was freezing in the dry warmth of the cave and couldn'tevenbegin to imagine what he was feelin-Wait he was still knocked out! Of course!

That's why he wasn't feeling-Wait again! If he was still knocked out, that meant he wasn't even feeling the cold. At all.

Ty Lee bit her lip and considered the situation. She could always leave him out there, but then he would probably catch his death of cold and die... And Azula would be furious and-and-

She didn't even bother to finish the thought. She took a deep breath and pulled her cloak tightly around her shivering body before she ran out of the cave into the pouring rain.

The bald monk was farther than she had thought and she almost tripped over a tree branch, or maybe it was atree root before she got to him.

She finally got to the avatar and hefted his small but surprsingly heavy body on her shoulders and made her way back to the cave. She had barely made it into the cave before her legs gave out and her upper body flopped downwards.

It didn't surprise her at all. She had expected to pass out when she had tripped earlier. It had just surprised her that it was happening now. Ty Lee chalked it up to the exertion of running into the rain and carrying his five ton body on her shoulders.

She raised her head and saw the cause of her current situation being hurled into the cave from the impact of her fall. She could feel her legs being battered by the rain but she was too tired to do anything about it.

And then she blacked out...
