Chapter One
Kevin Buchanan stood up from his seat. I would like to propose a toast. "To my son, Ace and his beautiful fiancée, Bess. May you always be blessed in your marriage." Everyone in the room clapped. "Thank you, Dad", Ace replied smiling down at Bess Chandler. Ace was the son of Kevin and Kelly Buchanan. Kelly still carried the Buchanan name, as she was once again married to Joey Buchanan, Ace's uncle. After his divorce from Kelly, Kevin formed a unique bond with his former sister-in-law, Jennifer Rappaport, and later married her. Bess was the daughter of JR and Babe Chandler of Pine Valley.
Ace and Bess had met as children. Bess' grandfather, Adam Chandler had called on his friend, Asa Buchanan, who was Ace's great grandfather, to help him regain control of Chandler Enterprises. After their plans were successful, Adam and Asa began planning for the day their families could be combined through Ace and Bess. While the family patriarch's were planning their union, Ace and Bess were content as friends. Later, as teens, Bess and Ace realized there was more than friendship. He proposed to Bess on the day he graduated from Llanview University. This brought them to today.
Ace looked around the room. It was filled with some of the most powerful families in Llanview and Pine Valley. The Buchanan's, the Cramer's, the Lord's, the Chandler's, the Martin's; they were all there. Bess' godmother, Bianca Montgomery was there as well. She was the daughter of Erica Kane, a powerful businesswoman. Ace saw the happiness in everyone's eyes. Well, almost everyone's. He noticed discomfort in his uncle Paul's eyes. Bess' grandmother, Krystal, also seemed uncomfortable. Ace could not understand why.
Paul Cramer smiled and pretended to be happy for his nephew. Twenty- six years ago, he had been the one to rescue Babe Chandler and her baby in a storm. It was also the night that he broke the news that Bianca's baby had died. Ironically, it was also the night that Ace came to be with Kelly. Paul noticed Krystal Hayward leave the room; he followed.
Ace saw his uncle leave the room and walk out onto the patio. "Excuse me, Mr. Chandler. I really need to speak to my uncle", Ace said as he shook his future father-in-law's hand. "Sure, Ace. But please call me JR", JR replied. Ace turned to go find his uncle. Ace smiled and waved to several friends and family members as he went out on the patio. He looked around for Paul. He finally spotted him and began walking towards him. As he drew closer, he heard a female's voice. He stopped for a minute and listened. "Paul, I've known the truth all along. I've always known that Bess is really Bianca's and that JR and Babe's baby died in the crash", the female voice said. Ace couldn't believe what he was hearing. Could it be true that the woman he loved was really the daughter of Bianca Montgomery and not JR and Babe Chandler? He hid as he watched his uncle walk back into the party. "What should he do?" Ace wondered.
