He didn't need anybody. He certainly didn't need a human for company. They were more trouble than they were worth. Such pitifully short lifespans and stupendously amazing ability to get in to trouble. No. The Doctor didn't need a companion. He didn't need anybody getting in his way or the hassle of trying to explain the fine art of time and space travel to some primitive mind.
'Because I think sometimes you need somebody to stop you.'
Donna was wrong. He didn't need somebody. He needed Rose.
