Rain

Authored by DrEaMiNgSoRa

A/N: This is my first one-shot between Riku and Kairi. I know this one-shot may be a bit cheesy, but it stemmed off from a relationship with someone I know very well. I'm his friend, he's my friend. Neither of us knows how the other feels. Honestly, this one-shot is like a dream I wish would happen. Though, it may never will. Enjoy.

"Riku, you think it's going to rain today?" Kairi mumbled, looking up into the clearless sky.

Riku did not look up from the vast array of open text books sprawled about him. "Hmph, you think?"

"Because rain is just the greatest, you know? Anything can happen on a rainy day.." Kairi leaned her back to rest against Riku's as she continued to gaze at the sky.

"Yeah, whatever you say, Kai.." He mumbled, narrowing his eyes down at the one particular book. He tapped his pen in slight fustration.

"Damn it, Sora. Where are you?!" Riku pulled a watch from a pocket in his cargo pants.

"Hey, he'll be here. He said he would be." Kairi pulled her knees close to her chest.

Riku sighed, suddenly aware of Kairi's back against his. "Well, I guess we could start without–."

"No, wait. Sora will be here any minute."

Riku grunted, his long hair veiling his aqua eyes. "Fine. Five more minutes."

.One hour later.

"I'm going to kill em'." Riku sat against Kairi with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Wanna play another gam–."

"I swear, I'm gonna kill him for wasting my time!" Riku shook a fist at the ocean.

Kairi turned to face Riku's back, poking him hard in the lower ribs.

"What the hell was that for?!" Riku spun around to face Kairi.

Now it was Kairi's turn to cross her arms over her chest. "What do you think? For calling time spent with me.. Wasted!" A pout crept across her lips.

"No, Kai. That's not what I mea-." Riku murmured.

"Y-yes, you did."

Riku's eyes softened upon seeing Kairi's teary eyes. "Oh, Kai.." He whispered.

Tears slowly rolled down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away, before Riku would try to.

"I have to go. It's all right Riku... Never-mind what I said.." Despite her tears, Kairi smiled faintly.

Before Kairi could rise to her feet, Riku caught hold of her wrist.

"No, Kairi... Stay with me." He whispered, tugging Kairi to sit back down.

She blinked a few times before being tugged downward to sit on the sand next to Riku. Kairi grew suddenly shy.

"R-riku..?" Kairi colored brightly, feeling Riku finger her hand within his grasp.

Riku failed to respond, leaving silence to speak for itself.

"May I hold you?" Riku rasped out of no where, his hair veiling his eyes as he stared down at Kairi's hand in his.

"What...?" Kairi squeaked.

"May I hold you?" Riku asked again, more clearly this time. His hand slowly traveled up her bare arm.

Kairi's blush deepened reasonably. Her eyes followed Riku's hand until his hand paused to rest against her right shoulder. Kairi looked away in complete shyness.

Riku began slipping his arms around Kairi. She willingly let him, tears welling up in her eyes. Kairi gently rested her head against his shoulder.

"I've always...liked you, Riku.." Kairi sobbed quietly, clinging closer to Riku.

Rain began falling from the crystal sky, falling and soaking them both as they held each other.

A smile appeared from underneath Riku's hair. "Well..anything is possible on a rainy day."
