is being told from the POV of Reiko/Rachel the reporter. The questions in
quotes in the second stanza and possibly the "Since I met this little lady"
part are being said by Ryuji/Noah, the ex-husband (who in the original
novels hooks up with Sadako. Why? Well, you could say... They want what
