At the age of ten Clyde fell in love and told the person so.
It didn't go quiet as he had thought it would.
In fact it went nothing like he thought.
Because he certainly hadn't expected a fist to become intimately involved with his face. Multiple times.
Or the person not speaking with him for almost two years.
Or the comments of 'fag' and 'queer' following him like a shadow wherever he went.
At the age of twelve Clyde had a girlfriend.
He didn't love her.
Not like she loved him.
But, the comments stopped.
And his once former friend because his friend again.
And that was good enough.
For that moment.
At the age of fifteen Clyde was still in love.
So, he tried to tell his friend so again.
This time, he was certain that he would be bruised and bloody.
But, instead, hands rose to his face in a caress and the other boy just smiled in a knowing way.
At the age of fifteen Clyde fell in love all over again.
For a certain outspoken brunet with bad tendencies.
