SKILLET CHERRY CRUMBLE- ONE SHOT FIC
I woke up to the birds chirping and the sunlight teasing my eyes. I rolled over to find Yusuke no there. Of course. He's probably on another Reikai Tantei shimei. His job does come first. Oh well. He'll be home soon...I hope.
I rose out of bed and slipped on the slippers Yusuke gave me for my birthday. I also put on the green robe he gave me for Christmas. I trudged down the steps, regretting the fact that I got out of bed. How am I supposed to face the day without Yusuke to support me?
Entering the kitchen, I found a note taped to the table. I picked it up. It read:
Dear Keiko,
Sorry about leaving unexpectedly. The royal pain, a.k.a Koenma, has another shimei for me and the gang. WE might be gone for a few days- a week tops. Hope you'll be fine. You know that I... well, I'll be thinking about you all the time. I just don't understand why pacifier breath can't send the Reikai Defense Team to take care of this clown. I can't stand these cheap shimei's. Before I forget, there's a surprise for you in the fridge. Hope it didn't freeze.

Oh Kami. A week? Wait a minute... a surprise? What could it be?
I got up and opened the fridge. I cried out in joy. In front of me was my favorite- homemade skillet cherry crumble. I took it out and set it on the table. Finding a spoon, I dug in. A sweet mixture of cherries, nuts and cinnamon filled my mouth. But there was more. I could feel Yusuke's love in each bite. I saw him trying to find the recipe and ingredients. Yusuke getting cherry juice all over his clothes and cursing. Hiding from the stove while it was boiling. Licking his fingers to see if it tastes right, sugar in his ungeled hair. Him sprinkling the cherries with granola, extra cinnamon and love.
I looked back at the note and saw red stains. I imagined my love sitting there, writing the note quickly, being late for his Reikai Tantei shimei. I laughed. I laughed so much tears came to my eyes. Then my tears overflowed.
He loves me so much. It doesn't matter if he says so or not. It's all in the little things he does. The $1 roses, the apologies, the moonlight strolls, the surprise parties...and the skillet cherry crumble. I finished the dessert and looked out the window towards the rising sun. I can face the day...all thanks to you, Yusuke.
