Title: A Simple Morning

Summary: Felicity and Gus share a morning together. (Takes place after "So Dear To My Heart".)

Notes: I don't own Felicity, Gus, or Hetty. As if I really need to say that. Reviews are the chocolate chips of my cookie, so please review! Flames suck, all there is to it. And I tried my best at making Gus sound like Gus…so be kind on that.

Felicity watched as Gus carefully moved around in the small kitchen. He knew his way around the home now better than before, and could lead himself to wherever he wanted, unless one of the children got in his way, he never had any real problems. Opening the cupboard and taking out a glass, he made his way back to his chair. Wordlessly she poured tea into it.

The morning was unusually quiet since the children were on an errand with Hetty, so they had some time to themselves for a change.

"You're quiet," Gus said suddenly, taking a sip of his tea.

Felicity smiled, "So are you."

"What are ya thinkin' about?"

She glanced around the room, uncertain if she should bring up the past, back when so much was different than it was now. The sliding of plates against wood and his hand upon hers brought her back to reality.

"Felicity?"

She could see the concern on his face, and immediately wanted to see it gone, "I was just thinking about us." She laced her fingers with his, "About how you've always been there for me."

It was Gus's turn to smile, "That's good to hear; I'd hate to be havin' you upset." Taking his hand from her to pick up his glass again, he turned briefly towards the door, where outside the birds were chirping something fierce. She knew what he was trying to not say and leaning across the table, she kissed his cheek reassuringly, "I don't regret this, Gus Pike, so stop this nonsense."

He turned back to her, trying his best not to smile and failing horribly, "Now, how do you know that? You readin' minds now?"

Shaking her head at his antics, she started to gather the breakfast dishes when his hand was upon her wrist, "Why you doin' that for? We should be celebratin' this quiet we goin'." With a smile that always melted her heart, he guided her to the next room where there was more than enough room and placed a hand on her waist. Taking her other hand, he kissed it softly before they started to dance slowly. Looking up to his face, into his eyes that stared back, unseeing. Someday his eyesight would return, but even if it never did, she'd love him just the same. Resting her head on his shoulder, she closed her eyes briefly, trying to comprehend what he was going through but gave up after a few moments. Gus didn't need her pity or her trials of understanding, just her love.

And that was one thing she had plenty of.

The End.
