This is a bit while Anakin is slipping into the lava in Episode 3. No own. Review. Padme's a little OC.

Anakin was slipping…

…Slipping into the fiery hell of a death awaiting him. Obi-Wan had left, Anakin had lost Padme's love, and he was going down a path he couldn't recall the meaning to.

And, as he looked up at the sky, praying for some sign of help, he saw the distraught, disappointed, but none the less loving face of Padme Amidala, standing a mere few feet away.

"Padme…" he cried, his voice a horrible hissy call.

"When does it end?" she asked. "When does the killing stop?"

Anakin growled, "I tried to save you!"

She wiped away tears, "I tried to love you. I do love you."

"Help me!" he demanded.

Her words seemed to pain her to say, "I can't."

"Help me out of here…" he pleaded helplessly.

"Anakin, our love wasn't enough then, how can it be now?" she asked.

"I have the power!" he shouted. "Our love will never die."

"But how many others will for it not to? At what cost?" she questioned, "You always had the power to love me, to get my love…"

"Help me!" he said again.

Padme shook her head as she sobbed, "No."

"You want me to die?" he cried.

"I want justice and liberty, and good, to live."

Anakin threatened, "He'll come for you! Sideous will come after you!"

"Will he? Or will he send you?" Padme asked, "And you would kill me if he told you too…"

"You betrayed me!" Anakin snapped viciously.

Padme replied, "You betrayed my love."

"I tried to save you!" Anakin remarked.

"Killing younglings was saving me? Fighting Obi-Wan was for me?" she hissed, "Don't put that on me, Ani. I didn't make you do that."

"If you love me, you'll help!" he tested, trying to regain a tight grip.

"Leaving you will destroy me, but letting you kill more, hurt more, that is worse."

She turned and headed up the hill. She turned one last time, forgiveness in her eyes, love in her heart.

Anakin sighed, and nodded, finally resigned. "I understand."

And, as she escaped, he pushed himself deep into the lava.

He wasn't hurting her any more.
