Disclaimer: I do not own Smallville, Superman, its characters, or anything associated.
A/N: When I write poetry, what I write is often inspired by my primary focus at the time. Lately, that has been Smallville and Superman, and so, most of my poetry has thus been related. I decided to put a little poetry collection up because I love writing and reading poetry, and I hope others do as well. There isn't much of it on this site, which I find a shame.
Personally, poetry is a really raw thing. It's a big piece of myself, so if anyone has any reaction or feedback, please give it to me. It means a lot, more than usual.
This poem particularly is about Lex and his destiny. I'll say no more to let you reach your own conclusions. :)
Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy.
Heir Apparent
I don't know where I am going
Maybe I've finally lost my way
Or maybe these seeds that I've been sowing
Have burst alive today
And these mistakes that I have hidden
Are springing free unashamed
Their presence sadly unbidden
With only myself to blame
But this is a path I have taken
Since the day I was born
The untraveled road's forsaken
Even though my soul is torn
There was no future hiding
For me to stumble upon
And this charade that I've been riding
I should never have stepped on
It's back to what I know
Whether I'll be condemned
There's no other place to go
Or at least I'll pretend
For to have the sanctity of heaven
Right before my eyes
And watch it rot and deaden
At my touch and at my lies
Is too much of a cruel fate
For even a black soul like mine to bear
It's easier to say it's too late
And boast that I don't care
Easier to embrace the malice
That I've always known
Then to be rejected from the palace
And the holy throne
For there must be a martyr
An antagonist to fall
To be Lucifer was always harder
Then to be He who ignored his call
But someone must take the burden
And now it seems to be me
I'll let fall the final curtain
On who I wanted to be
And we'll face off in battle
Fight for the sacred place
I'll prate on and prattle
And destroy the human race
While you surely save it
Take the spotlight for your own
In your proper place you will sit
As for me, I'll be alone
