Chapter 1:

Welcome to the Academy

It's been a five year wait, but I can just feel Beacon closing in my grasp. I can't wait to finally feel like I belong somewhere. But I have precautions. Who will my team be? Will I be hated by fellow students? Will I not be able to even defeat a monster without messing up? Well, it's now or never.

I stepped inside the aircraft, looking around at the the people on the ship. I glanced over at two girls. One seemed a year younger then the other, with blonde curly hair tied up with a large pink bow. The other, with a short black hair parted over, with purple highlights. The blonde haired girl tilted her head in my direction, giving me a dirty look, as she turned back to look at her female friend.

Looks like I've made a enemy already. I thought.

As I walked along the craft, I noticed a large screen, with Lisa Lavender, the famous news reporter, discussing something with the fellow listeners. I squeezed past the crowd surrounding the screen and stood at the front.

"Today there was another dust robbery again, who everyone says, claims to be the White Fang. Although, the criminal, Rowan Torchwick, is still avoiding authorities. There is also believed to be a new criminal on the loose, who-"

My deep listening to the screen was interrupted by Glynda Goodwitch, a professor, and Huntress, at Beacon.

"Good evening the new students of Beacon. I am Glynda Goodwitch, a Huntress at this academy. Since so many people have gotten into Beacon this year, we have separated you into two groups. Group A is at the North and West parts of Beacon, and Group B, which is you, are on the South and East parts of Beacon. We hope you show your strength in our first assignment, which will take place at the Emerald forest in the next day. We will be arriving at Beacon soon. Good luck everyone."

The channel fizzes out, and a educational show appears, as I walk out of the crowd, moving towards the gigantic window.

"Wow," I whisper to myself, as I fog up the glass.

The main tower stands mighty in the center of Beacon, will many small buildings surrounding it. I stand on my tip-toes and see Vale, all the way across from the ship.

"Nice view, right?" A mysterious voice added, making me jump. The girl with purple highlights stands before me, smiling.

"Yeah." I reply, as I extend the length of the word.

She smiles, ignoring my tone of voice.

"My name's Dyrena. What's yours?" She asks cheerfully, holding out her hand.

I take her hand, gripping it loosely. "Cathel. Sorry to be rude, but what's her problem?"

She turns in the direction I am looking in, frowns a little, and turns back to me.

"Oh, Avery? She's just... how can I put this... cranky."

"You could put it that way." I snort.

"Come on, she's still my friend. Be nice, okay?" She asks, blinking her eyes.

"Okay." I pout sarcastically.

She laughs and looks at me again, when the doors of the aircraft open.

"Come on, hurry!" She pulls me out of the ship unexpectedly, as we run out of the huge doors. Glynda stands in front of the main tower of Beacon. All of the students slip out of the ship, and stop in their tracks.

"Welcome to Beacon," She says.
