Mr and Mrs Potter, I'm sorry. I'm afraid it's bad news...
The words still sat uncomfortably in Harry's stomach.
He still heard them like he did a week ago when the Healer told them, still remembered how Ginny couldn't speak afterwards, how she gripped his hand just a little too tight as they sat opposite Healer Jones in his office. The miscarriage had delivered a horrific blow to their relationship. They couldn't even speak about it; it was simply too heartbreaking for them to deal with.
Harry lay silently in thought next to Ginny, the clock over her shoulder showed that he'd be leaving for work in four hours and he had still yet to fall asleep. He just couldn't shut off. There was something that made him wonder whether it was his fault that Ginny and him couldn't have a child, maybe he was just too broken.
Suddenly Ginny's voice gasped next to him, "No, please."
Her whole body tensed, her breathing hitched slightly as Harry sat up immediately to comfort his wife, "Hey Gin, it's just a dream."
"No, no, no," she whispered.
Harry rested his hands on her shoulders, "Ginny, wake up. It's just a dream, wake up."
Her eyes flew open, the echo of a scream lingered on her lips for a brief second before she focused on Harry above her. Harry breathed a sigh of relief, glad that she was awake and no longer suffering from her nightmare. Her soft brown eyes bore into his green ones for a long moment, as if she were trying to reassure herself of her surroundings and to make sure she was truly awake.
"Harry," she said, although, it came out more like a question.
"Yeah, it's me," Harry answered.
There was a beat of pure silence before her eyes filled with tears and Ginny pulled him close. Harry was half-shocked and half-upset as he held Ginny against his chest. He'd expected this a week ago, not right now, in the middle of the night. She sobbed into the crook of his neck for a long while, and all Harry could do was whisper words of comfort and hold her gently whilst she let it all out. Harry had very rarely seen Ginny like this, maybe once or twice, right after the war. It just wasn't in her nature to breakdown, she was strong, but when she did it was awfully upsetting.
"Why can't we get pregnant?" She sniffed, her voice muffled against his body.
"I'm sorry, Gin, I'm so sorry."
"We told everyone. Everyone knows and now we're going to have to tell them that our baby's gone."
She was right. They celebrated the start of a new soul, and they invited the world to celebrate with them. That thought hit Harry suddenly as they sat together, holding each other close, "We shouldn't apologise for inviting people to see something of wonder and awe and profound beauty."
She pushed me to arms length and stared at me incredulously, a small smile flickered across her expression, "You're right."
Harry smiled, "We're going to keep going, Gin, one day we're going to have little monsters driving us mad."
***Six Months Later***
Mr and Mrs Potter, I'm sorry. Healer Chadwick caught me in the corridor; it's great news. You're having a baby boy.
