Disclaimer: I am not LMA, and therefore I do not own her lovely characters. I am simply borrowing them.
Laurie laughed nervously and motioned for her to take a seat beside him. "Jo…" He started, staring at her. "I need to tell you something." She nodded, and for a moment she was worried for his sanity. "For a while now, I've felt different. Begun to question my intentions of the nature of our relationship, and I realized that I… well, that I love you, Josephine March."
She gasped. "Teddy…" He bit his lip and nodded. Did she not feel the same way? His heart beat faster, a curl of his dark hair sticking to his flushed forehead with sweat.
"Marry me, Jo. Please, I beg of you, do me the honor of becoming my wife. Do not let your dear boy's pursuit to have been in vain."
Jo blushed. "Teddy, I can't marry you. You need an elegant lady, someone who appreciates the finer things."
"I don't need that. I need you, Jo. I only need you." Laurie pleaded. She shook her head and a frustrated sigh escaped her lips.
"Don't you see? If we were married, we would not go a day without arguing. It would be unhappy for the both of us."
"You… You don't feel the same way?"
"I love you as a brother, and as a friend. Besides, I shall never marry. I've mentioned that before, haven't I?"
"You have, but I can tell you don't mean it. You will find someone, Jo, and marry him. You'll have a family with him. And I will have to watch, without exploding of jealousy, betrayal and anger!" He retorted, hot tears threatening to spill over his lashes. Determined not to let his beloved see him vulnerable, he stood up and started off back towards his grandfather's house.
"You'll find someone!" She angrily called after him. For a moment after he was gone, she lay on her back and stared up at the fluffy, white clouds. They were mocking her.
When Laurie reached his home, Beth was waiting between the two houses. "How did it go?" She asked gently. He frowned.
"Badly." He moaned as he slammed the door. Breathing heavily, he placed the ring on top of the piano and pounded on the black and white keys as he played the saddest, most tragic song he knew.
A/N: I'm back! This will quite possibly be ten chapters, I suppose. Maybe more. I bloody love this ship. Sorry for my hiatus? Please forgive me.
