Can't Hear Over the Awesome

Once again, Mako arrives at a party late and underdressed.

There is only one thing to do and that is to grab a cup of disgusting Party Level punch and go lean against a wall, preferably one overcast with the shadows of a corner or a ridiculous planet balloon in Mako's case.

The League of Super Awesome Heroes, dubbed by a veteran hero who was looking forward to retirement with all the excitement of a young child, was holding its annual meet-and-greet, and this year's theme just so happened to be Mars.

The costumes of extraterrestrial life were ridiculous and terribly exaggerated. Mako was certain that instead of promoting unity in LOSAH there would only be fights about the validity of sensory antennae on the inhabitants of Pluto, who have never been photographed.

At least the real extraterrestrial heroes were having fun at the expense of their human colleagues.

As he takes a sip of pineapple-raspberry-strawberry-apple-orange juice, Bolin and a girl mysteriously appear to his left. Mako takes a breath to tell Bolin to go away and mingle but he has already begun introductions.

"Korra, this is my brother, Mako."

"Mako? I've heard about you on the radio!"

"Uh, that's great?" Mako looks about hesitantly as if he might be able to make up an excuse of needing to be somewhere else.

"Dude, she's an alien princes here to help save the world from the forces of evil. Like the Equalists."

"Okay?"

Bolin makes his Face of Sadness and looks at Mako with disappointment. Try to say more than a few syllables Bolin's eyebrows say.

Mako tries. He really does.

"What city will you be working in?" He asks the alien princess politely.

"Republic City! My space capsule landed in the South Pole, but now I'm being moved up into an actual city! Bolin tells me you guys are from there too, so I look forward to working with the two of you."

"Well, there are other..."

Bolin suddenly breaks out into a hearty laughter and Korra starts to laugh too. Bolin's laughter has always been infectious.

"Meet you over by the snack table? I have something I have to talk to my brother about. Try the cream puffs! They are to die for."

Bolin's smile is broad and shining. Korra gives the two a curious glance but heads on over to the table and really does try a cream puff or two.

"She's something special, okay? I know it. I really want to work with her, so don't tell her about Asami and Tahno and all those other guys." Bolin looks so eager to keep his new friend that Mako can't really resist giving into his brother. Like he ever has before.

"Whatever you say, bro."
