"Five bucks says I can," Kid Flash smirked as he stared Robin in the face with his most challenging gaze.
"Ten bucks says you can't and you get a nosebleed from it," Robin grinned as he tossed the small object in the air, catching it to toss it up again.
"You're on." Kid Flash grabbed the object before it landed in Robin's open hand and gave the younger a firm handshake.
"Anyone else want in on this?" Robin looked around the room. Megan and Conner shook their heads.
Artemis nodded and grinned. "If I can make money off of Kid Idiot's stupid stunts, I'll be rich in no time."
A blur of red rushed by, stopping to lean on the island in the kitchen. "I'm in if you're still betting against him."
"Unc- Er. Flash! Not you too!" KF whined as he shook his head.
A deep voice came from the shadows behind the teens, causing all but Flash and Robin to jump. "Put me down for fifty against him."
KF swallowed hard and stared at Batman. The Batman. Great detective, dark knight, other title here man wouldn't even side with him. That just meant he had to win.
He sighed and nodded, staring down at the single popcorn kernel in his hand. He had to concentrate on the kernel, be the kernel, pop the kernel. All with the powers of the speedforce. He positioned it carefully in his hands, making sure to give it enough room to pop out if -no- when the kernel popped out of his heated hands.
With the kernel sitting like a king in it's throne, the planning stage was complete. Next stage was heating. He had to shift his molecules at just the right speed to pick up enough friction to cause the kernel to heat up. If he vibrated too fast, the kernel would just fall through his hands. If he did it too slow, it wouldn't heat properly and would probably just sit there like a tiny pebble.
The whole group surrounded him, watching and waiting for him to fail. He tried to concentrate solely on the task at hand, but it was hard to do with so many eyes watching him. Especially the eyes of a Bat gazing down on him from the shadows.
He started vibrating his hands, partially trying to pop the kernel, but mainly from nerves. With everyone watching, he was so nervous, anxious and a bit claustrophobic. He just wanted to be done with this and get them all to go away, but he'd never let that show. He couldn't show that kind of weakness around his friends, family and mentors. He just couldn't.
Kid Flash closed his eyes, attempting to clear his mind. His hands were getting hot and he could tell he was vibrating at a good pace. He wasn't sure how long this would take, since it was a single kernel and a whole bag took an agonizing two and a half minutes.
Just when he was about to give up, he heard that familiar pop and felt something light hit the side of his hands. He stared down and grinned wide for less than a millisecond for in that time, Flash had popped the popcorn in his mouth and replaced it with an unpopped kernel.
"What the?" Kid Flash started as he glared at Flash.
The others either didn't see what he had done or chose to ignore it. "Better luck next time, KF." Robin smirked as he walked past him. "At least you didn't get a nosebleed."
Various "good try"s and "good luck next time"s came from everyone as they slowly left. Kid Flash was left with just Batman and Flash. He glared over at Flash. "That was a cheap move."
"Consider it part of your training. Until you can pop popcorn without Flash stealing it, you don't get any of the benefits of popping it," said Batman. Batman, of all people. Kid Flash groaned and sunk. There go his plans of getting that new game with their money.
AN: Yeah. Complete randomy goodness. It's short, wrote it in a flash. Who got that joke? Pun intendid.
If you've got ideas for stories you think would be the bomb diggity, let me know.
I'm on a sugar high so don't mind the crazy talk.
