A/N: I don't own anything. This was something I wrote to vent. I didn't really set it up but I guess Killua takes over the Zoldyck empire.

The feelings welling inside of Killua were new for him. His body felt broken, the gravel pressing against his back, his hands cut deep in the palms. The bruises on his face and body were throbbing painfully with every breath. But those were only surface wounds. His tranquil blue eyes held heartbreak as he looked up at his attacker.

The man had his knee pressed against Killua's chest. Not that it mattered; Killua was too stunned to move.

"It didn't have to end like this," the man said, sadness in his gold-brown eyes. Tears were streaming down his tanned face.

Killua felt a lump in his throat, swallowed, and smiled bitterly. "No," he croaked. "It would always end like this. I don't belong in the world of light. I had rather it be you than Hisoka or Illumi."

"Killua..."

The ex-assassin's smile broadened when he heard how broken the man was. It was bittersweet, finally accepting his place in the world only to have it end so soon. And his best friend being the one to take it all away.

"It's funny," Killua said in a light-hearted tone. "We haven't seen each other in such a long time. At least we could play together one last time before it all ended. Eh, Gon?"

Gon could not bring himself to answer. The tears seemed endless, he was unable to see the smile on Killua's face.

"I guess Illumi got the last laugh after all. Telling me not to make friends for this exact reason. But it was still fun, all those adventures. Those times were fun, we were invincible. All we needed was each other." He could tell his words were daggers in Gon's heart. "Hey Gon?"

No response. Killua could feel his body grow cold.

"I missed you."

Gon's throat was dry. "We can still go on adventures, right Killua?"

The broken man laughed lightly. "Sure Gon. Just don't do anything reckless." And he closed his eyes.

Gon lifted Killua's head, his white hair reminding him of the stars they gazed at on Whale Island, the dust they walked on when they met Kite. His pale skin seemed transparent. Gon wrapped his arms around the face he had loved so much. His best friend, his brother.

"We'll always be together."
