Maura was jogging along her and Jane's usual route but she was alone tonight. Jane had gone out to dinner with John a police officer she had been dating for almost a month now. While Maura knew she should be happy for her friend she found John intensely irritating and she found running helped to rid her of some of her frustration.
As Maura jogged round the corner of Jane's street she heard her groan in annoyance and watched as she threw her keys to the ground before sinking down onto the steps leading up to her apartment holding her head in her hands. Maura reached the bottom of the steps "Jane?" Jane glanced up tears rolling down her cheeks
"Why are all men such bastards?" She questioned wiping tears from her face with the back of her hand. Maura just shook her head joining Jane on the step as she placed her arm around her back squeezing her shoulder gently. "I mean it they're all bastards. You grow up just taking it for granted that you'll meet the man of your dreams, get married and live happily ever after. But here I am still alone, and you know what?" she looked up to meet Maura's eyes "I'm seriously starting to believe I'll be alone for ever" she dropped her head into her hands again.
"Jane you've got to stop talking like that"
"Like what? I'm serious Maura what have I got to offer?"
"What have you got to offer?" she laughed her voice incredulous. "You are the most amazing woman I have ever met. You're beyond intelligent and funny, so, so funny and…"
Jane remained with her face in her hands paying little attention to Maura's words but as Maura continued her list Jane looked up surprised that Maura was still talking, continually thinking of new ways to praise Jane. Jane watched as her friend spoke. She had the same look on her face that she had when she talked about science or art and though Jane teased her when she spoke about these things, she loved to watch when she spoke about the things she was passionate about. Her eyes shone and the corners of her lips turned up a she smiled just thinking about whatever it was she was talking about. To see her like this while talking about Jane made her glow with a strange sense of pride.
"You've never let me down once, you'll always be there for your friends and family, you are the most wonderful…"
Jane could help herself no longer she held Maura's face in her hands as she leaned in and kissed her gently. Maura pulled back in shock after this sudden interruption. But on seeing the concern in Jane's eyes she quickly leaned in again a smile spreading across her face as her lips met Jane's again. Jane wrapped her arms around Maura's waist pulling her closer as Maura ran her hands through the brunette's hair. They kissed deeply pressing their bodies against each other as they finally did what they had been waiting so long for. As they finally pulled apart Maura's eyes shone with excitement "…Oh and you're an excellent kisser" she completed her list as she picked up the key from the step beside her and took Jane's hand leading her up to the apartment.
