Wild Child
Jack scrambles out to the main deck. Rose trails behind him. It's almost midnight.
He opens his arms wide like a bird and spins around in circles. His eyes are closed and his mouth is fixed in a goofy grin. Rose giggles at his childish actions.
Jack runs over to where she is standing, takes her tender hands in his, and forces her to spin with him. Jack laughs with Rose. He looks deep in to her eyes, she is truly enjoying herself.
Jack walks dizzily to the edge of the massive ship and holds on to the rail to help steady him down. His legs dangle over the beautiful darkness of the Atlantic. The waves are loud against the wall of the ship, the dolphin's cry, just a whisper.
"Rose, do you ever just close your eyes to stop and listen?"
"I don't understand."
Rose walks cautiously toward Jack and sits down close next to him. She loops her arm through his, interlaces her fingers with his, and lays her head in the crook of his neck.
"You know, just let it all in. Let it all surround you."
Rose stares off in to the distance.
She likes this: being out here, in the open, with Jack, especially with Jack. It's her favorite thing.
Rose likes to get away from all the helter skelter the day brings. So being out here, with Jack, is a sweet release. She longs for every night to be like tonight, every day the same. The thought of doing anything outside of this perfect world tears her to shreds.
She moves closer to him. He holds her tighter.
Her eyes glitter in the moonlight.
It begins to drizzle. Rose, frustrated, stands and turns away. She walks unhappily to a hooded area. Jack reluctantly follows her.
The rain falls harder, faster.
In an instant, Jack picks Rose up off her feet, holding her in his strong arms. She doesn't mind this, until he sprints out in to the freezing downpour. She screams, but this has no affect on Jack. He ignores her and continues dancing in the pouring rain. Rose loves to dance and can't hold back any longer. She finally gives in and lets out a hearty laugh. She smiles big, showing all of her perfect teeth, and throws her head back, enjoying every second of it.
In an instant, Rose grabs hold to either side of Jack's flawless face, her lips instantly finding their way to his. Jack kisses her so sweetly and gently, filling her with overjoyed ecstasy. Rose wraps her weakened arms around his neck, and her head, once again, falls perfectly in place on his shoulder. Rose could not be more satisfied with such a perfect ending to such a perfect night.
